Subject: Does anybody here miss The WB?

That channel was boss back in the day! Throughout the 1990's & 2000's it provided quality entertainment. From teen shows like; Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson's Creek, The Wayans Bros, Charmed, 7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls, Smallville, The O.C, One Tree Hill, Supernautral, etc. :D
Just watching those shows with my older sisters and cousins back in the day made me feel cool especially since they were teenagers at the time 8)
Its epic Weekday & Saturday Morning cartoon block, Kids WB! Its epic lineup of shows like Pinky & the Brain, Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries, Histeria, Pokemon, Max Steel, Jackie Chan Adventures, Men In Black, The Mummy, YuGiOh, Static Shock, X-Men Evolution, Cardcaptors, Mucha Lucha, etc. :D
Plus you had the reruns of Seinfeld, FRIENDS, & Frasier to name a few if I recall. Also it had its own news block and I will admit that logo, especially where I am from being from the New Jersey/New York region where it was called The WB 11, it brings back just a huge amount of nostalgia.
Its a channel I loved watching as a kid in the early-mid 2000's, and I wonder if there's anybody else who grew up in the 1990's & 2000's that misses it?
Because I sure do :\'(

Only when I think about it. Most of my memories based from t.v is Cartoon Network. I remember watching Martin on WB in 96. The Toonami premier felt a bit out of place but still was hype worth. It was a pretty great network, even if Pokémon sums up my WB memories. Which I don't understand why Nickelodeon takes all the praise when WB destroyed Nick.

I barely watched the WB, especially Kids WB, but I think it was okay. Same when it's now called the CW.

Because regular WB, not Kid's, was a teen and young adult network, not children. They had kid's WB for that.
I do remember Kid's WB, but regular WB I was too young to care about. I mostly spent my tv watching time with Cartoon Network.
As for the response to this post I think this should be moved to the '90s board.

Since when did The WB destroyed Nick? If you were talking about how Kids WB was on broadcast television, then that makes sense. But for The WB, I don't think a lot of kids would watch it.

WB was a overlooked, miss opportunity. The network had such a fantastic colorfully lineup of varieties during its prime. Nickelodeon was creative but too unique. Most of their programing was weird and strange to me.

Well I was a kid during that time as well but I had older siblings and cousins so that's how I know a lot about these shows. Also why do u think it should be moved to 90's?

Yeah, I loved the young people shows back in the day. Angel, Buffy, Smallville, Charmed, 7th Heaven, Dawson, Reba etc. They were all great shows that I loved in my childhood. Still watch them to this day. And yes I agree with ocarania, I have no problem WB being on this board.

True! Those were all great shows! Also I think it could be equally on both forums. For instance The Wb came onto the scene in early 95' so for much of the second half of the 90's and almost all of the 2000's the WB was on the air

You and a couple others are exceptions though since you had other siblings, I was too young to get into WB's regular programming by myself too. I knew WB existed as a kid but the live-action shows were a blur to me, I only watched it for Kids WB on Saturday mornings as well as Cartoon Network's regular programming. 2001-2004 is when Kids WB peaked for me due to all the consistent & epic lineups that were so amazing at the time. 2005 was the last decent year for Kids WB but not as good as the previous years, as there was a huge decline later that year IMO. 2006 and onwards I stopped tuning into the block. In the Atlanta area when Kids WB moved to CW it was moved to Sundays therefore it was impossible for me to watch it from that point on.

The WB had several great teen shows back in the early '00s. My favorite shows at that time were Angel, Smallville, Gilmore Girls and 7th Heaven, but I also liked Buffy and Dawson's Creek.
How about some forgotten WB shows? One show I liked to watch back in the late '90s was a sitcom called "Smart Guy" starring a young Tahj Mowry as an genius elementary school kid that is promoted to high school. It was a pretty cool show back in the day, but I don't think it lasted all that long. The theme song is about as "nineties" as you can get.

Lol I remember Smart Guy! But only through reruns on Disney Channel though. The same with Sister Sister

I sure do. That network was miles better than its successor the CW. I remember watching most shows on there including Kids WB. It was one of the best channels and the shows were wonderful. I can also remember the Dawson's Creek theme song very well and still to this day. It's a shame that it only lasted 11 years before it became the CW.

I recall watching that show when it was still airing on TV. After it ended, it aired reruns on Disney and maybe UPN. Despite that I haven't listened to the theme song of Smart Guy in a long time, I still remember how it went.
You're right, it didn't. It began in 1997 and finished in 1999, only airing for 2 years. I feel like that show was totally underrated when it was current at the time.

Pretty much the entire decade, with the occasional tuning in to this day.
Well I was a kid during that time as well but I had older siblings and cousins so that's how I know a lot about these shows. Also why do u think it should be moved to 90's?
I had an older sister, but I was way too young to be caring about the WB when she was in high school in the early 2000's and she moved out of the house in January 2005. It was my mom that watched The WB, not her. I also think this should be moved to the '90s board because the network saw a large decline in popularity in the early '00s. Wikipedia explains it perfectly. It's popularity was almost entirely constricted to the '90s (which was only for a few years anyway). If anything, the network suffered longer than it succeeded.
For instance The Wb came onto the scene in early 95' so for much of the second half of the 90's and almost all of the 2000's the WB was on the air
The WB shut down its servers and merged with UPN in 2006, so that's only a little over halfway through.

Well you do gotta point there! But that didn't mean the channel wasn't still good. Especially since the late 90s classics like Buffy, Angel, 7th Heaven, & Dawson's Creek carried over into the early 00's. Plus you had the debuts of Gilmore Girls & Smallville in the early 00's

When I think of the WB, I generally think of 1997-2002 roughly, though that may be because those were the years that I most watched it. I do feel like that the 1997-98 season is the year that the WB really became the channel that we all know, as 7th Heaven was already entering it's second season, and several key WB shows already mentioned (like Dawson's Creek and Buffy) made their debut. I didn't watch the network that much anymore after about '02, but many of those shows (as well as later ones like Gilmore Girls and Smallville) did continue well into the mid '00s.

According to wikipedia, the WB started declining in 2003, during that year Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dawson's Creek came to an end. For Kids WB the classic era of Pokemon ended when Misty left and went into the Advanced generation. So there were definitely some major bumps that year. 2001-2004 was the peak of Kids WB for me anyway so I didn't care for the WB's programming cause I was too young then. There are exceptions though.

Yeah tht does make a lot of sense. 2003 was the WB and Kids WB, last classic year

Yeah this is true. The peak started around the 1997-1998 school year with the release of Buffy & 7th Heaven and the peak ended around the 2003-2004 school year with the end of Dawson's & Angel

In the Atlanta area, I believe ours was the WB 36 Atlanta, and the channel was called "WATL" Atlanta, GA. Something like that. I think when WB switched to CW in 2006 then it switched to the "CW 69" Atlanta. I always got confused rather it was WB 36/69 or UPN 36/69 when I was younger, before the channels merged with the CW in 2006.

I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT!!! :D UPN DID have a Saturday Morning Kids block, it was like an alternate version of Disney's One Saturday Morning, like One Saturday Morning TOO, I completely forgot about this! I think I only saw it once or twice my whole childhood.

As for the Atlanta area, now I needed to refresh my memory, this is how it went with the two stations.

I remember watching UPN's One Too sometimes, especially when ABC Kids replaced One Saturday Morning in 2002. Also here in the NY Area the WB was WB 11, while UPN was channel 9. As of now Channel 9 is MY 9, & WB is now just Pix 11 (though they air CW programming).

Yes, both The WB and UPN started in the 1995-96 television season as an obvious attempt to capitalize on the same early success that Fox had enjoyed in the late '80s and early '90s. Unfortunately, things got off to a very sluggish start for both networks, as neither managed to find an early hit with the same impact that The Simpsons had for Fox. In fact, even 7th Heaven, the most popular show on either The WB or UPN by far, didn't actually crack the Nelsen top 100 until 1999-00.
I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT!!! :D UPN DID have a Saturday Morning Kids block, it was like an alternate version of Disney's One Saturday Morning, like One Saturday Morning TOO, I completely forgot about this! I think I only saw it once or twice my whole childhood.

Yes, I remember "Disney's One Too". I also remember the block that preceded it, UPN Kids, which aired on Sunday mornings instead of the traditional Saturday mornings. Most UPN kids shows didn't last very long, and are not very well remembered today, but one that stood out to me was the Iron Man animated series (which actually started in 1994 in syndication, but was re-run on UPN). You don't really hear it mentioned among other '90s action classics like Batman: TAS, Superman, or the 1994 Spider-Man series, but I would easily put it on par with those shows.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDPyAkPcQMk
As for the WB affiliate situation, I live in central Georgia where, up until around 2000 or so, there was no official WB affiliate station. So, for us, when we watched The WB between 1995 and 1999, it was actually on Superstation WGN. As I mentioned before, WGN signed an agreement with The WB in 1995 to broadcast it's primetime and children's lineups over it's air, which was a huge boost to The WB, as it gave the network instant access to the millions of people that received WGN through cable and satellite packages. Looking back, it was a pretty shrewd move on their part.
