I was going to write early peak childhood and late peak childhood but it sounded weird.

The mentioned shows got popular in 2001. I watched Powerpuff Girls earlier but I had to put it somewhere while keeping 5 shows for each era ;D

Cartoon Cartoons were shows that Cartoon Network made during the late 90s/early 2000s. It was also famous for the Cartoon Cartoon Fridays block, whom many 90s and early 2000s kids praised.

You guys may know this already, but it's coming close to the tenth anniversary of CN's YES era (April 3, 2006).

According to some older fans, this was when they began to "officially" die. Even though a few of the CN city bumpers were still around at this time, they were largely replaced by annoying ones with characters like Fred Fredburger repeating the same jokes over and over again.

However, in the eyes of these fans, CN didn't fully complete its "death" until the Fall era in late 2007.

Oh yeah I remember that. I miss them CN City bumpers. If Cartoon Network had a lineup that rivaled the Powerhouse Era and bumpers that were like the CN City era then I'd say that they would be in another golden age.

Also I wish Cartoon Network did more animation showcase series. It's how they ended up with all their classic shows from the late '90s/early '00s. It's a great way to add tons of cartoons to the lineup. I wonder why they don't do it again.

Yeah, because it's not like the ten billionth time somebody has mentioned how bad the Yes era is. I mean, they're just cartoons. When I was 6 and a half, I didn't really care that Cartoon Network was dying because I haven't even known about the channel until 2005. And besides, you have tons of CN fans that love the channel now. Since the Check It era is like a renaissance to them.

I wouldn't say the Check It era is great, especially with their lack of variety on their schedules. But I guess Christina Miller is still new to the Cartoon Network team, she probably doesn't know that there are still people who want Powerhouse's style of schedules back.

From 2010-present, the CHECK it Era has been a roller coaster ride, but there's no denial that it will be remembered as one of the greatest eras in CN history along with the Checkerboard, Powerhouse, and City years later. I agree that the CHECK it Era has had the poorest scheduling in CN history and a lot of that has to do with us finding a lot of other shows to watch outside of cable nowadays, like Netflix, Hulu, or the internet. The CHECK it Era also had issues with cancelling really good shows with great story line and depth due to lack of toy sales from the main target audience.  8-P Only to be replaced with shows that are a lot more cheaper.

The Powerhouse Era was the most mature era in CN history that had all kinds of programming that appealed to all demographics. The Checkerboard Era only had reruns of old cartoons and no original programming or anime, and while the City Era had the most creative look on the outside, it was by no means a mature CN era since programming wise CN City only appealed to young kids.

"Cartoon Cartoons" was the name given to any Cartoon Network original show that was created from 1996-2003, starting with Dexter's Laboratory up until Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy. The "Cartoon Cartoons" had this catchy theme song that was played towards the beginning right before the show came on that sounded like "bumm bumm bumm bumm bumm bumm bumm" or something like that. For a while I used to think it was the Cartoon Network anthem or theme song. It really did feel like the main theme for Cartoon Network at the time though. There were blocks like Cartoon Cartoon Fridays, Cartoon Cartoon Show, Cartoon Cartoon Primetime, Cartoon Cartoon Top 5, etc. for segments of the original programming at the time. After mid 2003 the "Cartoon Cartoon" brand name was no longer used and from that point on it's been simply "Cartoon Network original series" from Cartoon Network Studios. Like NewYorkEagle said, the "Cartoon Cartoons" was a millennial late 90's/early 2000's kid fad. It wasn't a quintessential 90's kid nor quintessential 2000's kid fad.

We didn't have Cartoon Network here in the early 2000s. Most those shows Eric listed came on Teletoons though. I've heard Teletoons borrows mostly from Cartoon Network (except the anime), YTV borrows mostly from Nickelodean (and anime), and Family Channel borrows mostly from Disney. They have a lot of original Canadian content as well though. I watched mostly YTV growing up, barely watched Family at all except Lizzie McGuire in 2003/2004.

You were barely born a year before me.

My point is that it's possible to remember some eras before the Noods. Especially when you're mostly a late 2000s kid.

I was born a year before you, and I remember the City, Yes, and Summer of 2007 eras fondly.

Yeah, I'm 100% sure you remember those eras very well. I was in 3rd-5th grade during that time while you were in K-2nd grade. New episodes of shows during CN Fridays or Toonami Saturday nights are what everybody was hooked into at the time.

Most people don't say the Yes era is bad. In fact, very few people on the Internet I've seen seem to know it exists. Because it was so short, had most of the same shows as the City era, and still had a few of the CN city bumpers, most people tend to subconsciously "lump" it into the City era.

For most fans, the Fall Era in late 2007 was the "death" of cn.

Then how come they're still CN fans that like the channel now? You have them praising almost every single show they have now, except for Teen Titans Go, Uncle Grandpa, and Clarence for some people.

Most of the shows they aired usually had two ten minute segments. Possibly the same way Teletoon or YTV cartoons air episodes.

I'll probably get kicked out of the '90s kid tree fort for saying this, but the '00s had alot of good kids shows. I'll admit that Cartoon Network was a guilty pleasure of mine throughout college (and still is sometimes now), and I would occasionally catch Danny Phantom and Jimmy Neutron on Nickelodeon when I didn't have anything else to do.

I don't know if it's been mentioned on here yet or not, but Invader Zim was an amazing show. One of the greatest shows ever on Nick, and easily on par with any of the best '90s Nicktoons. It was stupid of them to cancel IZ after such a short run because the show had such a broad appeal. I know firsthand that it was just about as popular with early '00s teens as it was with early '00s kids, and there wasn't much on Nick at that time you could say that about.

Liking shows from decades that you weren't a kid in is always awesome in my book. As for Invader Zim nearly everyone who was an early '00s kid, teen, or adult enjoyed the show.

There are barely any 90s kids who liked some '00s cartoons, since they believed anything after 2000, 2001, 2002, or 2003 was crap. However, I never met anybody who fully admitted that they liked '00s cartoons/kids shows in general.

If you drink some Pepsi Blue, then you will not be kicked out of the tree fort. I also watched a bit of Danny Phantom and Jimmy Neutron back in the day and I agree, they were good shows. Invader Zim is the best, though. I stopped watching Nick in 1995 but I'd go back to catch up on some Zim back in the day. I rewatched the entire series a month ago and I couldn't stop laughing. It reeks of the late 90's/early 00's, man.

Wayside

Funny you mention that show, because to me, it has to take the award for the most messed-up adpatation of all-time. :P

Take for example the character Myron. In the books, he was a tall, thin, smart, selfless, well-dressed kid and a quiet dreamer type. But in the show, he's a short, fat, dumb, selfish, poorly-dressed kid who's loud and obnxious. :P

As a standalone show, it's average, but I don't understand the writers' thought process behind this change. When it comes to botching a book, this is even worse than "Arry did you put your name in the Goblet of Fiyah".

- Flapjack
- House of Mouse
- Kim Possible
- Avatar Last Airbender
- Star Wars Clone Wars
- Shaman King
- TMNT 2003

- Samurai Jack
- Danny Phantom
- Fairly Odd Parents
- Chalkzone
- Sheep in the Big City
- The Weekenders
- Static Shock
- Fillmore!

- Jimmy Neutron
- Duck dodgers
- Pelswick
- Jackie Chan Adventures

Born in March 1999, so I am a Mid/Late 2000's kid. I have divided the shows I watched based on my age at the time, as obviously the shows I was watching at age 3, for example, would be entirely different to the shows I watched in my core childhood.

Infancy/Toddlerhood (2000-2002)

Magic School Bus
Maisy Mouse
Rupert The Frog
Hi-5
Play School
Brum
Busy Buses
Bob The Builder
Sesame Street
Banana's In Pyjamas
Pingu
The Land Before Time
Rugrats
Arthur
The Wiggles
Franklin

Early Childhood (2003-2005)

Arthur
Pingu
The Wild Thornberrys
Hi-5
Play School
Land Before Time
Spongebob
Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks
Kim Possible
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Bear In The Big Blue House
The Koala Brothers

Core Childhood (2006-2008)

The Wild Thornberrys
Sheep In The Big City
Blinky Bill
Arthur
Jimmy Neutron
Spongebob
Ned's Declassified
Looney Tunes / Merrie Melodies (original shorts from 40's & 50's)
Mickey Mouse (original shorts from 30's & 40's)
Wacky Races (60's cartoon)
The Flintstones
Inspector Gadget
The Angry Beavers
Mighty Mouse (a 1940's cartoon)
Sheep In The Big City
Johnny Bravo

Late Childhood (2009-2011)

Sheep In The Big City
Johnny Bravo
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (a 1920's cartoon)
Spongebob (only seasons 1-5)
Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies (original shorts from 40's, 50's & 60's)
Ren & Stimpy

It's strange that as I got older, I started to watch older cartoons.  :P

To me cartoons are timeless (well most of them are). I can like nearly any cartoon no matter the time period as long as they're good.  I'll be 76 watching cartoons like the cartoon nut that I am.  8) I found making fiends to be interesting. One day I was too lazy to turn the channel and then it popped up. I've only seen it about 3-4 times, but I thought it was a decent show for it was. I did like the art style as well.

I'm not sure. It was favored by critics and fans of Nickelodeon, including me. It only aired about six episodes, and it was aired from October to November of 2008. They did release a DVD box set around June of 2009, but I don't know how much copies it sold.

Hey Slim. Since you're Canadian, when do you believe channels like YTV and Teletoon went downhill?

I never watched them, but from what I've read on Internet forums, most think they went downhill around 2006-2007 - which eerily mirrors the time American kids' channels also went downhill according to some.

Forgot to add Drake & Josh. Funny enough that show is basically what I look to when thinking of core 2000s culture. That and maybe also Zoey 101.

The most 2000s show ever to me will always be Popular, even though it aired 1999-2001. It resonated with me even in 2007, I thought the show was contemporary ;D

Desperate Housewives, King of Queens, Scrubs and How I Met Your Mother are also very 2000s to me.

All decent examples of core 2000s sitcoms. I've only seen Popular once or twice, but I liked all the other shows mentioned and were shows that I've seen quite a bit during the 2000s.

I'd also add Phil of the Future and Ned's Declassified (the only show that was ever able to make Middle School seem fun and offered legit tips).

The first couple of years of my peak childhood, I only cared for cartoons, since there wasn't any sitcoms from the early 2000's that interested me at all, but it wasn't until the summer before 2nd grade when I started getting into sitcoms, thanks to discovering That's So Raven on Disney Channel. Later on, shows like Drake & Josh, Phil of the Future, Zoey 101, Ned's Declassified, Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and Everybody Hate's Chris would premiere. So the mid 2000's was my peak in interest with sitcoms throughout my childhood, and looking back, the core 2000's was a great time for 2000's comedy sitcoms and drama. Compared to what the late 2000's offered, and especially today's lack of living room/family sitcoms. The mid 2000's was almost like a Renaissance age for sitcoms, maybe not on the same level mainstream sitcoms from the 90's, but kid sitcoms during the mid 2000's were exciting to catch brand new every Friday night.

When I saw that show as a kid, I thought it was what middle school legitimately looked like. When I went through middle school, it was like the opposite. It sucked so much, to the point where I hated my life because I was very lonely at the time.

Yeah, the early 2000s didn't have many sitcoms for kids. I recall a few, like Radio Active and I Love Mummy, but those are Canada-only.

If I can think of any early 2000's sitcoms that were big. I would say Even Stevens, Lizzie McGuire, Cousin Skeeter, Taina, The Amanda Show, hmmmm, and maybe that's it? Not counting Kenan & Kel since most of its run spent time in the late 90's, which ended in 2000, and I'm not sure about All That, since I heard that the later seasons in the early 2000's were no where near as good as the 90's episodes.

Mid 2000s was a great time for sitcoms (whether for kids or adults). I'd argue it was on a higher level than the 1990s sitcoms as the mid 2000s is where the 2nd golden age of television is said to begin (according to sources and wiki). Heck on IMDB most of the top 100 sitcoms come from the 2000s. So I can get why you'd really get into sitcoms around in the mid 2000s since there was so much to enjoy and watch. I didn't start getting into sitcoms until around 2001. Before that I was 100% cartoons 100% of the time.

In the later episodes of All That they changed the cast which is was an issue with everyone. And aside from the early 2000s sitcoms you've mentioned there wasn't that much for kids to enjoy. Well besides maybe a few other obscure shows like Zack Files or something.

Does Lizzie McGuire count as a sitcom? It doesn't have a laugh track IIRC ;D

The Amanda Show is more of a sketch comedy.

When I think sitcom, I think of comedy shows with a laugh track and a story in an episodic format (i.e. you don't have to watch older episodes to understand the story, you can start from the middle). Basically Seinfeld. I'm not sure if the laugh track is necessary though, so Lizzie McGuire could definitely be a sitcom. Wikipedia seems to think so.

edit: looks like laugh track sitcom is just a sub-genre of sitcoms. Makes sense, since Curb Your Enthusiasm and Arrested Development are considered sitcoms, and don't have a laugh track.

So there are more early 2000s sitcoms than I thought ;D

Lizzie McGuire seems to be the main one if we're restricting it to kid friendly sitcoms, so it's no surprise that most people didn't watch any.

I forgot Hillary Duff had like two hit albums in the 00's. And a few hit singles. She's way more sane than Britney Chears. I like her clean cut image, and music. Not bad.

She was my tween obsession! The movie was great. Also, one of my friends at school memorized the entire lyrics to her song "Why Not" and he got picked on for it. I pulled him aside and told him he wasn't alone!  ;D

Ned's Declassified used to confuse me a little bit. Because everyone in the show attended "middle school", I thought it might of been the US equivalent of our "high schools", however all of the kids only looked about 11 or 12, which would be too young for high school here in Australia. Also, the school on the show looked like a "high school" as well.

Middle school/junior high where I live is grade 7 to grade 9, so usually ages 12 to 15. But in some other places it includes grade 6 and other places it only goes up to 8th grade.

I wasn't too into the Disney sitcoms. I liked the single-camera/audience-free shows like Lizzie McGuire, Even Stevens, Life With Derek, and Phil of the Future. The laugh track shows never appealed to me because I never found them very funny. The only exception to this is That's So Raven, I really loved that show despite it being a sitcom. I really loved dramas more overall growing up though.

In America middle school is from grades 6-8 or ages 11-13. The main actor Derek Werkheiser (actor of Ned Bigby) was about age of a middle school when the show started. He was about 13 which means that he was a middle schooler who was playing the role of a middle schooler which I find funny. High school for us in America is 9-12 grade where you're at ages 14-17/18.

Yeah, of course I watched it. I thought it was about the Pink Panther himself, but it was about a pink diamond for some reason. This kinda pissed me off as a kid. Considering I didn't know that the Pink Panther was originally from a spy film in the early 60s.

They don't show classic cartoons anymore?  :\'( I used to watch those shows all the time, haven't seen Cartoon Network or Boomerang since Star Wars: The Clone Wars ended though.

They don't even show a lot of classical cartoons on Boomerang. Most of their schedule are just reruns of Teen Titans Go, Gumball, and some other recent CN show. They do show the original Powerpuff Girls, Billy and Mandy, and Codename: KND, but they don't show it a lot.

Boomerang is basically just Cartoon Network Version 2 at this point.

Nope! This makes me furious.  >:( Cartoon Network stopped showing the classical cartoons in the 2nd half of the CN City era. Now because of it I've turned into an old fogy in spirit. I'm going around saying "Kids these days didn't watch the classical cartoons like I did".  ;D Although I think Tom and Jerry was still airing on TV from time to time.

Actually, most of the classical cartoons were already gone off CN by the time the City Era started, only the first few months of the City Era (June-September 2004) the classics were still there in the weekend mornings including Boomerang block itself, but in October 2004 all of the classics were wiped out including Looney Tunes getting taken off, however throughout the rest of the City Era Tom & Jerry was still played regularly, although again during the early weekend mornings. During the Powerhouse age Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry were shown more during the regular day time.

I would agree with this ever since they rebranded the damn channel a year ago. Ever since January of 2015, they barely shown any cartoons before the 2010s, which is what Boomerang used to show from 2000-early 2015. I mean, it's like they don't realize that Baby Boomers, Gen Xers, Gen Yers, and some Early Zers watch it, and think that little kids deserve the spotlight. Even though they have the spotlight from Cartoon Network, but I digress.

Make that 2000-mid 2014. Boomerang may have rebranded its bumpers in January 2015, but scheduling/programming wise the rebrand was done in June 2014, because I distinctly remember that major schedule change that occurred in June 2014 when almost ALL of the classics were removed, blocks like Boomeroyality and Boomeraction were removed, and the days of the repetitive schedule had began including shows that were barely off Cartoon Network ended up airing on the network. Boomerang's golden age will always be 2000-2010ish for me.

Oh wow.  :( By late 2004 all the classics seem to have disappeared. I'm not sure if CN removed the classics due to no one watching them or just because they wanted to fill space for newer shows. Funny as 2004 seems to be the ending year for cartoon related things. 2004 Power House era ended and changed to CN City. 2004 Toon Disney was now mixed with Jetix. 2004 to some the Nickelodeon Silver Age ended. And in 2004 reruns of a lot of older shows started disappearing. With CN it was the old classical cartoons. With Toon Disney it was with the Disney Afternoon cartoons. And I think with Nick some of their golden era stuff either ended their original run or weren't airing reruns. I wonder what was so special about 2004 that caused things to change.

I think they did that because they know that Boomerang would air of all the classic cartoons around City Era. I mean, without Boomerang, I wouldn't completely know what Cartoon Network was at the time. As someone who did watch Boomerang for a decade (2005-2015), I could probably tell that Boomerang was the hub for all the classic Warner Bros. and Hanna-Barbara cartoons for most of their classic era.

Well okay. I stopped watching Boomerang around 2014ish, but I still watched it casually before the rebrand. Around the 2000s, I could tell that Boomerang was really awesome at the time. I loved watching Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, the Pink Panther shorts, A Pup Named Scooby Doo, and other Hanna-Barbara/Warner Bros. cartoons at the time. I actually loved Boomerang more than Cartoon Network for that reason. The early 2010s were possibly the last time when Boomerang was still good by any chances, by my thoughts.

I think it was some generation change or something. Although, I could say that the very late 2000s/early 2010s was when things started to transition towards cartoons that I watched. Between 2009, there was the Disney XD and Nickelodeon rebrands. Both of those rebrands changed the networks that were around for more than a decade, especially Nickelodeon. As they changed the classic splat logo which was used for 25 years before the rebrand. Around 2010, there was the Cartoon Network Check-It rebrand, and the Hub debut (which replaced Discovery Kids). Both of those changes were kinda set on to make a new era for cartoons, from my perspective.

Now this was an awesome show. It features a resurrected Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd century (year 2103) who partners with a cop lady and a robot who has the personality of Sherlock's old friend, Watson. They try to stop a future clone of Sherlock's arch enemy Moriarty. Was a pretty cool show.  Aired in 1999-2001 with reruns up to 2005/6. And it's currently airing on Channel Qubo as of 2013-present.

I loved this show as a kid. And I loved that intro.  8)

For the fact that it's on Qubo (which was a channel that I used to know as a kid), it seems kinda like that. Thankfully, Qubo is still there. I could remember the channel airing reruns of the 1989 Babar series, which seemed magnificent for me as a child.

Oh cool. If you still have Qubo you can catch the show from time to time. Or just watch on youtube or DVD.

I usually watch old cartoons on the Internet, since you have to wait for a specific time slot in order to watch the cartoon you want to watch on TV. Especially on Qubo. With the Internet, you could pretty much watch it anytime you could.

Makes you realize how good we have it today. Waiting on a specific time to watch a show on TV? Psshh, streaming online is all ya need.  ;D You can binge watch an entire series on Netflix and have a good time.

That's pretty much one of the only positives for the 2010s, imo. You could watch anything related to cartoons, especially the older ones. All you need is to search up the cartoon series, and there you go. It wastes less time compared to waiting for a bunch of commercials and bumpers.

I saw a bit of that show

My Dad is a Rock Star? More like "My Son is an Ungrateful Jerk". :P

I tend to think that the son just needed more attention. Hell, even the son doesn't get a lot of attention in the intro, which shows that the dad is somehow mean spirited.

There was this mid-2000s reality TV show that I watched when I was 12/13. It was called Rock Star: INXS. 15 people compete to be a member of an Australian rock band. It was bad ass as f*ck. I stole my mom's phone and voted for the Canadian every time, they won both seasons!  ;D
