Subject: I miss 2000-2002
Written By: 80sfan on 09/01/15 at 10:40 pm
I'm starting to have a rosy feeling and look for the years 2000, 2001, and 2002. It's a nice little time in my life that I look back now with warm thoughts and feelings. At the time I didn't like those years but now I can look back and appreciate it more than I did in the moment, then.
I miss this time now! I was mostly in Junior High during this era.

Here's one of my most favorite movies of all time, The Others, from 2001.

They were good and bad times both. School sure wasn't a fond memory and 2002 was the beginning of on and off money trouble at home. Still, it was the best of times for having outings and a time before crappy drama teenage began to brew. It was the last of the fun without the pressures that came with getting older.

It's easy to be nostalgic for things like junior high and high school years later once life is more difficult and we have responsibilities. Those days seem so simple and carefree. In reality though, they weren't. There is an old saying that youth is wasted on the young. While 2002 and 2003 were some of the best years of my life, 2000 and 2001 weren't and at the time I thought it was awful. I had older people in my life at the time tell me that one day I would miss those years and want them back and I didn't believe them.

Were you a preteen during the era?

You're right! ;D
For some reason though, I kind of like 2000, 2001, and 2002. Not sure why. Maybe one day I'll know. ???
I was 11 to 14 during those years, just for context!

High school, though I wonder if it would have been better or worse if my age was different at the time.

Those were definitely good years to be in junior high. I was in 8th grade during the 1999-00 school year and 9th grade during the 2000-01 year.

There's a dark aura about the years starting in 2008. I'm guessing it has to do with the economic downturn starting in 2008. The 'feeling' and energy of the years pre-late 2007 was brighter and happier.

I don't miss 2001.
Aww, sorry.
2001 was an important year in my life. Our family moved to a new house/neighborhood after living in the same house for ten years!

I find 2002 to be memorable to me, even though I was only a toddler back then.

I think I miss the early 00s because I was beginning adolescence. Usually people look back at that time!
I'm still not sure why I miss it, maybe one day I'll figure it out!

I was 6 years old in 2002, I have a lot of memories from that year, and it was the first full year in my life time my memories are crystal clear from New Years Day 2002 to New Years Eve 2003. The first full year my childhood was at its peak. I remember those 2 weeks I was sick from Kindergarten, the 1st week I was gone due to being real sick and the 2nd week I didn't have to go to school because it was Spring Break. I remember my Spring Break trip to Sarasota, FL and went to all these places including an Aquarium and playing Putt-Putt golf, and was my first beach trip ever my whole lifetime, and I felt so much better afterwards. That was one of the biggest highlights of my childhood that I'll never forget to this day. Since I was already adjusted to Kindergarten and I started 1st grade later that year, that summer was one of the most laid back moments of my lifetime. A lot of family events I did throughout the year, Six Flags/Fairs I went to, football games and basketball games I attended, all the movies, shows, and cartoons on TV I watched at the time. It was real great! May have been the first post-9/11 year but it was still a laid back simpler time in America though. I remember that year very clearly, no vague areas it's like yesterday to me.

I agree. I miss this era as well along with 2003. It had so much to offer and it was exciting and brand new to experience. Despite the time period having 9/11 and other horrific events, it was still a positive time and it was so relaxed. Moreover, while we did have technology, it wasn't surrounding us like it is today. Instead, we were all enjoying ourselves with family, friends and others doing fun filled activities.

People tend to be the most nostalgic for the years in which they experienced rites of passage. Beginning adolescence as well as your high school years in general are those kind of times. Most people experience a lot of personal growth during those years.
I look back on my initial years out of college (2008-2010) with similar nostalgia.

I don't really find my adolescent years to be memorable. It's a pain in the ass to go through puberty.

Those years were good because of the sense if community between people due to the lack of heavy social tech. I loved how I used to know and talk to all my neighbours. Now, nobody on my new street talks to anybody.

I don't know what non canon means. From my impression, it's bad and should be locked away in the gates of hell forever!

Yeah I miss that time very much. Especially late 2000 through 2002/3. It's when my memories were now crystal clear and my childhood was its peak.
Christmas of 2000, the birth of my little cousin in January 01, Celebrating my 5th birthday and getting PS1, going down south to Georgia on my spring break in 2001, playing with my cousins and watching WWF with them at the time, playing outside and going to the park, learning how to ride a bike in summer of 2001, watching Kids Wb, ABC One Saturday Morning, & Fox Kids all summer long, graduating pre school, going to summer camp for my second year, entering kindergarten, the post 9/11 pride, getting cable in my entire household and starting to watch Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Toon Disney, & (to a lesser extent) Disney Channel at the time,Christmas 2001, my 6th birthday at a Chucky Cheese, graduating kindergarten and getting a gold fish as a present, summer of 2002 and watching tv channels & playing outside all day long, etc, I could go on and on!
Those were definitely great years for me as a kid!
