Subject: Who still had a CRT TV by the late 00s?
Written By: Shemp97 on 05/22/15 at 12:45 am
Apparently many TV manufacturers ceased production of CRT TV's in the late 00s for North America and people seem to be acting like CRTs are ancient and everybody jumped ship as early as 2005. In 2010, all the TVs and computer monitors in my house were CRT, the latest being a 40 or 50 inch flatscreen. I didn't get an Hdtv until the following year when TV broadcasts switched from analog to digital. Were CRTs really considered old back then? Very few people I knew had anything but CRT in 2009 and I even thought my 50 inch TV was fairly new. Kinda makes me scratch my head.

I had one because I always had analogue cable. Nowadays, I don't watch TV anymore; only occasionally on the internet.

I still had a CRT TV in the late '00s. People switched to LCD computer monitors earlier than they switched to LCD HDTVs.
If I recall, late '00s LCDs weren't very good unless you bought a top-end model. Most of the budget ones had horrible picture quality.

I did but I had two TV's. One was flatscreen and the other was CRT which we kept in the basement. CRT computer monitors were out of my household by 2006 I think.

I was still using a CRT set until November of 2010, when I finally upgraded to an HDTV.

I got my first TV for my 18th birthday in 2004, and I got rid of it in early 2014. It was obvioulsy a CRT because there was no HDTV in Germany until the late 00s. There were flatscreens around, but the quality was bad, especially with analog TV.

I got a CRT TV when I was 5 years old in 2000. There is a picture of me excitedly hugging it. I'm actually surprised my mother bought me one at such an early age - but if I remember correctly she took it out of my bedroom at night so I wasn't tempted to stay awake. I mean, we only had 5 channels but you know.
As for CRT monitors - I don't remember exactly. Sometime in the late 00s.

I still have a 1996 RCA CRT TV in my bedroom (with a LCD flatscreen in another section) that I use to watch Betamax/VHS tapes on and sometimes play classic video game consoles from the '80s and '90s (Atari, NES, SNES, Genesis, and PS1). Of course with DVDs, Blu-Ray, and current TV I use my LCD, but it does represent two generations of TV.
2006 was the first year I realized that CRTs were going the way of black & white TV due to them being highly prevalent in advertising and heavily promoted by then. That said, the last time I watched live, current TV was just last year when my family still had their 1991 Admiral CRT at their beach house.

My family replaced our small CRT-TV back around Spring 2001. We replaced it with this big huge screen Panasonic TV, but then around Christmas 2012 we got an HDTV.
