The White Stripes-Seven Nation Army
Yeah, to me that's the defining song of the decade. Maybe it's just because I was such a huge fan of TWS back then, but for me, "Seven Nation Army" is like the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" of the '00s. It's just impossible to hear it and not be instantly reminded of that time.
Here's four other rock songs that all had a major impact on the 2000's:
"Sugar We're Going Down" by Fall Out Boy: An inescapable song throughout most of 2005 that helped to kick start the popularity of what would come to be known as "Emo".
"Last Nite" by The Strokes: Not only did this song open the door for the '00s "Indie" explosion that gave us everything from The Libertines to Arcade Fire, but it also helped to finally kill off the slobbering beast that was Nu Metal.
"American Idiot" by Green Day: Totally revived Green Day's moribund career, and kicked off a renewed wave of anti-Iraq protest songs.
"How You Remind Me" by Nickelback: A defining '00s rock hit, whether you like it or not. Easily the most overplayed song of the decade.

I completely agree with American Idiot. It totally defines the political mood in America through most of the 2000s during the Bush years.

I looked it up. 2007 sounds right. I was in high school at the time and everyone was playing the song on their razr phones and ipods. Nobody had iPhones yet.
