Subject: Where were you on 9/11?

Where were you on 9/11?
I was in preschool/daycare and I can vividly remember all the teachers were gathered around the small television we had there watching the twin towers.
Where and what were you doing when you heard the news?

I was in 9th grade and as I live(d) in Germany, the crash happened in the afternoon for us. I was back home and my father was browsing the teletext (a simple text based information system on TV which is still popular in Europe today!) and was shocked about the incident. Even though it was far away, it was a big deal over here, too. I think I watched TV for most of the rest of the day and followed the news. I was also chatting on the internet with a friend living in the US.
The next day, we talked about 9/11 at school and discussed how our lives would change from this point on.
BTW: I have always noticed the towers before 9/11 - on movies and photos etc., but I have never known that they were actually called "World Trade Center" until then.

I was 9 at the time; I was brought home from school by my father; it was Tuesday afternoon here, and after we got a call we turned on the TV; after both towers had collapsed, I was scared and my legs trembled. In the evening I had to leave my house for sports and being on my way, I was afraid planes would fly over my city too.

I was in a vocational program in Manhattan and not too far from the Twin Towers and one of the people had told everyone that the Twin Towers had collapsed and the whole day of trying to get home safely was absolute pure chaos. Some things like this we'll never forget.

It was just a sight going home to behold. Everybody was scurrying like mice trying to head home on the trains, screaming and crying over their cell phones talking with their loved ones. I'm just glad I got home in one piece. :o

I was in my 8th grade science class. I remember that our teacher turned on the TV after she found out what happened so that we could get informed too. She had said that her brother-in-law worked at the WTC and she was worried, but a week later, I asked her about him and it turned out he was all right. I also remember that I went to my guitar lesson that day and my teacher was watching the television and he mentioned how he had seen pieces of dismembered bodies.

Since I live in California, I was either sleeping or watching cartoons when it happened. I was also in 3rd grade at the time and I think my teacher turned it to the news when I got to school.

I was in Grade 2, and living in Oregon. By the time I woke up for school, both towers had collapsed. My parents were freaking out, and I had no clue what was a going on. All I saw was a huge smoke cloud over New York and thought there was a giant fire that broke out. When I got on the bus to go to school, everyone else was panicking. Our bus was greeted by the principal, who told us everything is ok and to just go to class. Once I got to the classroom, the teacher explained to us what happened and let us have a moment of silence. We also had the TV running in the background.
On a side note, my mums friend from Indiana was supposed to fly in to see us that day, but her flight was obviously cancelled.

I was in 10th grade, right at the beginning of history class and a teacher walks in and tells us. Our teacher turns on the TV and that's pretty much what class consisted of was everyone talking about it. The class after that had the news on too. Ironically the Sunday before it all, a friend came over to visit and gave me an American flag window sticker. Monday the only thing on my mind was upcoming yearbook pictures. Everyone went about their day as usual, then Tuesday the mood was very different.

It was the afternoon here, I was at home and was fixed in front of the television in a state of shook. I relived that afternoon when I visited Groundzero last year, my wife and I were in tears.

I was 9 (turned 10 the following week). Here in the UK it was around 2pm when the attack happened. Our school didn't mention it to us, so I found out about it when I got home at around 3.30. My mum was watching the TV, which was very unusual for that time of day, so I knew something major must have happened!
I had never heard of the WTC or the Pentagon, and didn't really understand the concept of terrorism, so I didn't pay much attention to the TV.

I was sitting in the kitchen with my youngest step-daughter (actually, she wasn't my step-daughter at the time because this was BEFORE Carlos & I got married) who was visiting at the time. The phone rang and a friend of mine told me what was going on. Then she said, "Can I come over?" I told my step-daughter, "Come on. Sh!t is happening" and we went into the living room to turn on the t.v. My friend showed up and the three of us sat glued to the t.v. all afternoon. Well-they went to get a pizza for lunch. I called my mother to tell her about it-she wasn't aware of it. She was watching a movie and the channel she was on didn't interrupt it. I tried to call my dad who lived in D.C. Couldn't get through. My step-daughter called her brother who also lived in D.C. Couldn't get through.
We were finally able to get through to my step-son later that evening but still couldn't get in touch with my dad. We had my step-son call my dad to tell him that I had been trying to get through. My dad called me and I breathed a sigh of relief.

As a child I had a fascination for skyscrapers; I had a skyscraper calender and a book; in my sketch book from summer 2000 the WTC is included, still standing.

That is neat. And from 2000 and who knew what would happen a year later. :(
