Yes.  I find ironic to think that she died years later trying to get herself sober.  :(

Corinne Bailey Rae - Put Your Records On

I loved this song when it first came out...and I still enjoy it today. 8) In fact, it ranks among my all-time favorite songs of the 2000s decade (somewhere in my top 10 or so; I'll have to look at my list again).

I remember first hearing this at a Borders book/music store.  :)

Another song that played there a lot, at the same time, was Norah Jones' Don't Know Why, which was actually released 4 years earlier.

I remember that one. Soft-styled pop was somewhat popular back then.

I was so addicted to this song when it came out; it was noted for its sampling of Softcell's "Tainted Love."

Such an underrated song. This should have been a worldwide hit. You could argue that it's slightly ahead of it's time, because indie rock had yet to become a mainstream force. It peaked at #29 on the ARIA charts and stayed on the chart for twenty weeks. This song was actually featured in an episode of CSI: New York, but despite that, it failed to chart in the US. :(

2006 was my least favorite year for music. I especially didn't care for all the adult contemporary songs like James Blunt's "You're Beautiful".

That song did get annoying. Over here in the UK that song and the album it  came from was never played in the record stores due to  the offensive word. Radio stations did have a safe radio play version, but sometimes the wrong track was played. I only listened to it just to hear which version.

"Valerie" is a song by English indie rock band The Zutons from their second studio album, Tired of Hanging Around (2006). The song was later covered by Mark Ronson, with lead vocals provided by Amy Winehouse, reaching number two on the UK Singles Chart in 2007.

I have always heard the clean version on radio (“flying high”, which I think makes more sense in context).

I only knew the clean version before since I heard it on the radio so many times, but I decided to put it on my Spotify recently and noticed the f-word.

I just heard this song the other day for the first time at the gym. Of course it samples the classic C+C Music Factory hit.

"Alfie" is a song by British singer-songwriter Lily Allen from her debut studio album, Alright, Still (2006). Written by Allen and Greg Kurstin, the song was released as the fourth and final single from the album, on 5 March 2007, by Regal Recordings. In the United Kingdom, it was marketed as a double A-side single, along with "Shame for You". While the melody incorporates a sample of Sandie Shaw's "Puppet on a String", the lyrics directly describe Allen's real life younger brother (aged 20 at the time of the single's release), actor Alfie Allen, criticising him for laziness. The single peaked inside the top 20 of the charts in New Zealand and on the UK Singles Chart, where it became her third single to do so.
