Subject: 2002
Written By: XYkid on 12/10/13 at 2:32 pm
So I made a thread awhile back about 2004. 2002 and 2004 were probably my top favourite years of the 2000s decade.
Vanilla Coke came out that year, Sugababes released their second album, Home Movies began its long awaited second season, the Powerpuff Girls film was released, and Laura Pausini released her first English album towards the end of the year.
That summer, I got to travel to Europe, and saw the Tour de France, back when Lance was loved and adored by many. The Ketchup Song was on EVERY radio station in Europe that summer too.
For me the year came to a bittersweet end, I got my new Gamecube for Christmas but on the other hand I had to say goodbye to Oregon and move to Texas.

I got a gamecube that year. I remember getting super Mario sunshine along with it, then during Christmas, I got Mario party 4 and super smash bros. Melee.
I also met a good friend of mine which today we are still friends, but I haven't talked with him since he's been busy with college.
I remember the mario got milk commercial. It was interesting.
Codename kids next door and American Idol came out
I started watching mature shows
My mom bought a ps2 and I was playing pacman world 2. I'm not sure if that was 2002 or 2003.
I was in 3rd/4th grade
Ludacris' move b***h was the rage
I was watching fairly oddparents, spongeBob, time squad, adult swim, and the other classic cartoons
Left eye of R&B group TLC died
I was still playing N64, super Nintendo, sega dreamcast, and gameboy color.
I was going to the park everyday after school
I was going on the computer, not for the internet, but to play games on there
Chalkzone premiered
I started puberty/interested in girls

I was going on the computer to play games on there but also for the internet :)
2002 was one of my peak years to buy and sell on eBay, even though I was not 18 yet. Back in those days, eBay was still fun and transactions between private parties only were a big deal.
2002 was also the first year I was allowed to drink lighter alcoholic beverages like beer and wine.

Isn't that you have to be 14 or 16 to legally drink alcohol?

In 2002 I was 11 years old. In the spring I was in 5th grade and in the fall of 2002 I started 6th grade.
I remember having a Nintendo 64 (I got it in 1999 or 2000) and Gameboy Advance.
I watched Even Stevens and the Disney Channel a lot. Back then they had more teenage type shows.
I remember the first Spiderman movie came out, the one with Tobey Maguire.
I remember hearing these songs on the radio this year.

In Germany it's 16 for light alcoholic beverages, for example beer or wine. For stronger stuff like vodka etc. you have to be 18.

2002 was one of the best years of my childhood. It was also the last full year (that honor gets extended to 2003 since I was still under 13 for a majority of the year)
-Like Brandon, I made the transition from 5th grade (elem. school) to 6th (jr. high) that year.
-In 5th grade/late 2001 I had made a bunch of new friends, most of whom I'm still friends with to this day. I remember the summer of 2002 being a lot of fun hanging out with them.
-My family also went on vacation to Myrtle Beach that summer.
-We got our dog Daisy in August
-I had gotten GameCube for Christmas 2001 so a lot of 2002 was spent playing the games Super Smash Bros. Melee, Luigi's Mansion, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Party 4.
-Watching Disney Channel and Cartoon Network...for years Nick had been my only option.
-Family reunion in the Spring of 2002
And one more thing about 2002 that I really loved...

I was in my Sophmore year of High School, I remember....
My Biology Teacher died of a heart attack during Winter break
Spider Man being really big
The Eminem Show and Nellyville being played everywhere
Being hyped for Lord of The Rings: Two Towers
Michael Jackson dangling his baby from a balcony
Kingdom Hearts and Grand Theft Auto Vice City came out for PS2
doing some volunteer mission trip for local church
getting my first job
Really being into Ozzy Osbourne and The Osbournes

I loved that stuff as well! I'm sad they discontinued it.
What you can do though, it get a can of regular pepsi, put a blue jolly rancher inside of it, let it sit for an hour, and it tastes just like blue pepsi!

I just really liked the berry taste. It didn't taste like cola much.
Last year around the release of The Dark Knight Rises, Mountain Dew released a beverage that tasted very similar to it (not to be confused with Mtn Dew Voltage)

They were similar yet I could taste the difference. I actually preferred the taste of Dark Berry (had to look up what it was called) to that of Voltage.

Might as well revive this topic...
But ah 2002,
I remember getting that Pepsi blue from my local corner store with my cousin I thought it tasted a little odd, vice city came out, me and my little brother watched Malcolm in the middle religiously, also started the 1st grade that year, bought my first CD with my birthday money at walmart (let go by avril lavigine).
Tons of more memories from school showing up on my first of 1st grade... hiding in the coat room cause I was so nervous to start the day with all those strangers, still friends with most of the kids from my first grade class too! even though we all parted and did our own things in high school.
Crazy how time flies

and my sister was a huge fan of Atomic Kitten and Avril Lavigne so unconsciously I got to know all the songs xD
And I was busy playing Age of Empires.

This day (June 22nd) in 2002, Darryl Kile (St. Louis Cardinals) was found dead in his hotel room.
I remember that. :\'(
It was the first death of an active player during a regular season since Thurman Munson of the New York Yankees in 1979.

I enjoyed watching the baseball postseason that year. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim reached their first-ever World Series, and won it in seven games. (They entered Game Six facing elimination, and were behind for most of that game, but they came back and never gave up!) I was rooting for them all the way.

Ah the memories of my younger days.
I turned 22 in 2002. I remember meeting one of my uncles for the first time. I liked him when I first met him. It was around March 2002. Anyway, I remember being nice to him until one day that same year he called me fat. After that I didn't like him. Couldn't stand him. And I didn't let him forget it! I never told him why so he never knew. I've always hated body shaming... nobody should go through that. If someone is big then they are big! What is the big deal!!? If they want to be super thin...then let them be!! So, after that I never hugged or spoke to him again. Even throughout my 20s.
Highlights of 2002 for me:
- My hair was still long and beautiful.
- I mainly listened to Dance and Club music, particularly Amber's album "Naked"(2002).
One of the songs from that album:
Amber - Heavenly Proximity (2002)

Toonami did their "Trapped in Hyperspace" event, featuring Swayzak, the BEST sentient computer virus EVER. Except his on-air voice is STUPID compared to his online voice (the game is lost media because it was too complicated to back up, but I have talked to people who've played it.) His on-air voice is just a stereotypical villain voice (trying to imitate Mr. Lawrence a bit. Dunno, just sounds like Plankton.) But his online voice had a New Zealander accent, CLEARLY trying to cash in on the Star Wars prequel hype. IDK what it exactly sounded like, but it HAD to be hot. Plus, he infected TOM in the game and made him become evil. Why they didn't do more with Swayzak beyond this and a single cameo in the Rez review from 2004 is unknown, but I have created an MCU level of lore surrounding him. Hire me, Toonami!

I worked at a comic book store in my town (even though I didn't really read comics that much ;))
The West Wing, That 70s Show, Judging Amy and Frasier were my favorite TV shows.
I went to see Road to Perdition, Wind Talkers and Bad Company at the movies.
