Me & my boy were having a conversation talking about how back in 2002-2004 , when there were an abundance of reggae mixed with hip hop hits even reggatone mixed with hip hop or just pure reggae , it had its reign for a hot brief minute then it just vanished , It used to be pure pandemonium when these joints came on ;D

I'm not sure if "reggae" was the trend or if it was an "exotic" theme in general. There were a couple Japan-themed songs back then too (similar vibe):
