Subject: Christmas, 2001

Written By: Mat1991 on 11/10/13 at 12:17 pm

Does that Christmas season stand out to anyone else?

It stands out to me because the first Harry Potter movie was released around the holiday season (that's why the Harry Potter franchise will always have Christmas connotations to me), and it was the first Christmas after 9/11. I remember the radio stations started playing Christmas music earlier than usual that year because of the terrorist attacks.

I remember the Nintendo Gamecube was released around that point, though I didn't get one of my own until the following Christmas. Also PS2 and Xbox came out around that time as well.
I really can't remember too much about Christmas that year, Christmas of 2002 was much more eventful in comparison for me personally.

I was one of the many 11 year olds who unwrapped a GameCube that Christmas! Along with the games Super Smash Bros. Melee and Luigi's Mansion.

I don't remember anything else particularly note-worthy from that Christmas.

You think wrong.  PS1 came out in 1995 in North America and 1994 in Japan

I remember GameCube's debut. I resented it because Mario Party 4 was only available on that system, and I only had a Nintendo 64.

I remember Christmastime 2001 very well. I was in 5th grade. I remember people at school dressed like Harry Potter the Halloween of 2001.

I didn't need to dress up like Harry Potter, I already bore a striking resemblance to him! I had unkempt hair and round glasses. People left and right were remarking how much I looked like Harry Potter. I actually thought I should have been the one playing him in the movies.  ;D

Ps2 came out about a year earlier but I remember getting one along with WWF Smackdown Just Bring It and using Christmas Money to But GTA III.

I went out to Ohio to visit family and saw the first Lord Of The Rings out there.

The only down part was that my biology teacher died of a heart attack while fishing at 45 years old during break.

PS2 was a bit fragile, I was always afraid of dropping it.

It was a very fun Christmas for me. Possibly in the top two of that decade for best Christmases.

I barely remember Christmas 2008 but I can remember Christmas 2001 pretty clearly for some odd reason...

I woke up and saw presents under the tree and I woke my brother up and my parents said we couldn't open them up until we had breakfast (pretty sure we had Rice Krispies or something like that) then we opened up our presents and I remember getting a whole bunch of army kinda toys and a few Nintendo 64 games...

Not sure why i remember that so clearly.. I was like 5 at the time

I can remember every Christmas year of the 2000s except this one for some reason. It looks blurry to me. I remember the pop culture and what I did personally this year, but unfortunately, I cant remember this Christmas.

The time around Christmas 2001 was a really interesting time for me. I was 15.5 and it was shortly before the introduction of the Euro currency (01/01/2002). For Christmas 2001, I got my last bill of "Deutschmark" (only valid until 12/31/2001) and also got a so called "Starter Kit" containing coins of our new currency, the Euro, which most people hated at the beginning 8)

3 of the first 4 Potter films came out during the Christmas season (November) so that's probably why. And yes I do remember a lot of the stations here started playing christmas music like a week after Halloween which was never done before. But it's since become the norm.
