Subject: Are we still in the 00s/10s transition period?

Written By: nintieskid999 on 02/18/13 at 8:58 pm

I think we will be until this summer or maybe 2014. I'm just waiting for some things to feel different. I noticed more acoustic music but it also seems like things aren't speeding up enough.

I'd say we still are unfortunately.

I'd say at the earliest the cultural 10s will fully be here until April/may of this year. At the latest spring 2014??  8)

I guess I consider this time the "Obama presidency period". Since pop culture often goes hand in hand with presidents, this may last until 2016/2017.

Sometimes decades can 'blend' together culturally. Kinda like the 40s and 50s. And the 60s and 70s. I wonder if we're going through this. I do appreciate the independent/acoustic music though!

On January 1 2010, we entered the 2010s.

End of story.

I guess the 90s and 00s blended together and the 00s and 10s will continue to blend together.

Who knows. Maybe by 2020, the 2020s will be very defined and different than the 1990s-2010s!

I don't think there are any 90s left but I think that things sort of faded into each other. 90s shows, styles, and music remained as the new 00s music was coming. There was really no pure 00s period because even in 2007 you had some 90s style clothing and music along with 00s style clothing and music. In 2008, the 90s things died and it started transitioning towards the 10s.  Now 00s stuff remains while 2010s stuff is coming in. I'm glad there was really no pure 00s period though.

What are you all waiting for? It's pretty obvious that we are in another decade now. There is no transition anymore since stuff from 2010 already becomes dated.  ::)

You are lumping the 90s with the 10s and you will notice differences from the 2000s in the 2020s? How more superficial can it get?

I agree with that.

The Tween Wave period seems to be over, that's the period between 2009 and 2012. That's another South Park reference (Season 15, Episode 7). But joking aside, I do feel that even two terms of the same president can feel different from each other. Bush's two terms felt like two different eras, and so did Clinton's. Obama's first term can best be defined as music by Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Justin Bieber, rise of smartphones and tablets, hipsters, Jersey Shore, dubstep, and Arab Spring. Now is already starting to feel different from that time. Maybe the mid-2010's will be defined by hip-hop artists like A$AP Rocky (I just bought his album on iTunes last night. It's pretty good), as well as indie rock. I think by the end of this year we will clearly see what the 2010's are about.

This discussion borders on decadeology and I will now be locking it as decadeology is prohibited at inthe00s.

You may further read about decadeology here if you need to review the definition:
