I used to call them the "two thousands" but now I prefer calling them the "noughties". The term is widely understood in Australia and the United Kingdom, it fits the sound scheme of the other decades and the term "two thousands" doesn't work because not everyone has switched to calling the years "twenty x" yet.

I don't talk about that decade as a whole in real life. I usually mention the exact year when I have a conversation with people about something from the 2000s or I just say how many years have passed.

Early 2000s would be: "10 years ago..."
Mid 2000s would be: "6-8 years ago..."
Late 2000s would be "5-3 years ago..."

Same goes for other decades I have lived through btw.

But a lot of people still say "two thousand and eleven" or "two thousand and twelve" instead of "twenty eleven" or "twenty twelve". So you could put them more out of whack than a cowboy trying to bull-ride a submarine. YEEE HAAA with crazy!

Yeah, I also just call them "the 2000s". I call 2010s "the two thousand-tens" or "the twenty-tens".

I prefer "the zeroes" myself. I think it makes the most sense, but I'm not sure if everyone would understand what I meant if I said "that song was popular in the mid-zeroes"

The 2010s are definitely "the tens". Not the "teens" or "teenies" or "tenties" or whatever other names people come up with lol.
