Well, the 2000s have seen various cyborg wars and alien invasions(the late part, the late) while the '00s have been a copy of 1995 since 1972, and 2012 is shaping up to be a great 1989.

The title is still ambiguous. By "2000s," you could be referring to the span of 2000-2009, 2000-2099, or 2000-2999.

True. Didn't think about that.

I have it on divine authority that this could also refer to the 00s.

Yeah and I'm assuming this website is called "In the 00s" because it's being referred to the century right?

Yeah, I can see how that can be confusing. I did think about this century, but not the entire millenium. We haven't had this issue since around 1000 A.D. In the 1900's, I think they just referred to the first decade as the "aughts" to avoid confusion with the entire century.

You know, I read this online a lot, and yet I've never actually heard anyone say "aughts". Neither to describe the 1900s nor the 2000s decades.

Good question! Well, would you say 2000 has more in common with 1990 or 2010?

1990: No one really had home PCs, and certainly no internet. Video games were still in the 8-bit era. The average person has no cellphone.
2000: Most people had home PCS, albeit with dial-up. About half(?) of people have cellphones? Maybe not even half.
2010: Basically every home with people under 65 has at least one computer and high-speed internet. Most people, especially people between 14-60, also have cellphones, many of which are smartphones equipped with internet and several apps. The digital world has completely taken over.

It's a close call, but I'd say 2000 is closer to 1990. It's about even though.

I'm sensing a little "decadology" as they call it with this question  ;D But 2000 seems a little closer to 1990 to me as well like somebody said. But it's a very close call. From the explosion of technology of the 00s and certainly more to come along, I would say 2000 will be more similar to 1980 than 2020.

Hmm, about the 1990<->2000<----->2010-thing I am not really sure. I would say that 2000 is closer to 2010 than to 1990.

If you make your point with high-speed internet I have to disagree, because the technology was actually there. And even in my region which is quite rural overall, the small towns began to offer high-speed internet. And the speed which is offered is not much faster today than back 12 years ago. In the cities it became more and more normal; even as early as 2000.

Having a cell phone and running around with it was very popular in 2000. This is the same case today, only the phones are flatter and offer more features. In 1990, you didn't see people running through the streets with cell phones.

And of course the fashion from 1990... you could certainly run around with 2000 stuff today. But you couldn't with 1990 stuff in 2000.

Fashion I agree on but everything else, the year 2000 really seemed 90s. At least more so than 2010s.

Frosted tips would look out of place though ;D, I would agree that 2000 from my perception(tech, music, fashion, ect) seems closer to 2010 than 1990.

In terms of music, I think the 2000s will be remembered as the decade of crunk music and dark emo culture overall. 90s is more Classic Hip Hop/R&B overall, I don't think it's remembered for Grunge or Teen Pop though that was a popular fad. Kinda like 2000s won't be remembered for Electro Pop even though it was popular in the late 00s. 2000s will be thought of with songs like In Da Club, Crank That, etc.

Sorry, 90s will be remembered for Grunge and Teen Pop it just won't be the core music of the 90s like Hip Hop was. Same as 00s with Crunk. 80s was Synth Pop I believe.

I think January 4th 2005 and January 5th 2005 have similar trends in every way, but Jan 6th is different. This period lasted until January 8th (Snow White rising from the dead and occupying Madonna's body for 11 hours) , when things drastically changed again.  So I'd say January 6th 2005 is closer to January 4th 2005 than January 8th 2005, and not only because of the Snow White incident.

January 9th 2005 all things went to hell and by January 10th 2005, things were suprisingly similar to when I ate a 39 cent hamburger at McDonalds back in 1974 with my buddies Alan and Geoffrey.  But Alan and Geoffrey don't think so, they are more of a January 8th type of person who don't believe Snow White rose from the dead.
