Subject: Anyone miss the early 2000s?
Written By: iMissTheEarly2000s on 07/30/12 at 2:40 pm
2000-03 were the best years. The movies were better and the music was so cool during that period. Technology was simpler and thus so was life.
I actually feel quite fortunate to have been born when i was and that i was able to live through those times.
It was around 04/05 that culturally things just started to feel different, things started going downhill. The culture was changing and I havent liked it since. How many of you miss the early 2000s as well?

Of the early 2000s, I think I am mostly nostalgic about 2002 but not because of what was happening in the world I mean personally. I was only 22 and I remember some great moments in my life that year. The mid to late 2000s('05 to '09) were better for me!

Actually, if I had a time machine and it were possible I would go back to 2005-2009 in a heartbeat. Best years of my life! The early 2000s weren't that great for me, except 2002 which I have fond memories of.

I wish I can go back to 2004-early 2007 personally. I was 19-21 and had a few retail store jobs and was off to college. What I like most about that era is the amount of time I spend with friends and loved ones. I tried so many different things like sex, drugs, living on my own, and most importantly, I was in great shape(15 percent body fat in 2006). I always thought the movies from that era were great too, but I wasn't too fond of the music. Emo was so lame, we used to beat people up at work when we found out they listened to Simple Plan or Taking Back Sunday.

Well I liked the early 2000's for movies and videos games of the time, but I disliked being in middle school. ;\ It was an awkward period in my life. I wouldn't mind being in fall of 2003 or 2004 though. 2004 was a great year.

The early 00's were ok. Between 9/11 and horrid pop culture, the early part before 9/11 was decent and there were some tolerable things. I remember the ghetto fabulous look, the cargo pants, capris, J-lo, and the post 90's culture right before the Bush years... etc.

It was certainly a lot cheaper back then to do things. Gas prices were high, but they were usually around the $2.40 area here until the mid/late 2007 when gas prices were high. I had a part time job that I worked 20 hours a week, and I was still able to go and enjoy things. I can't do that today with the same job and pay. Heck I make 50K currently and living isn't as comfortable as I thought it would.

2000- It was an okay year, nothing special. I did start Junior High in the fall and Christmas was a blast, but other than that, just another year. Although I have to say I did enjoy 6th grade very much.
2001- I wasn't a bad year, but things changed fast for me this year.... I began puberty ;D. Also my family moved and I loved the house, but it was kind a dark year, I guess it was my hormones?
2002- Not as eventful as 2001 at all! Even more mundane than 2000. To be honest 2002 was a forgetful year in my life.
2003- It was a fun year and I loved the energy of it! I especially loved that summer going to Washington D.C. with my 8th grade class. 2004 had an even more fun energy in my opinion. Hated the crunk music starting to be on the radio though... awful! 8-P
Overall the early 00s was uneventful and forgetful in my life. The mid-00s were more eventful, though in a dark and twisted way. :-\\

I really miss them, too. My personal life was better than ever. And when it comes to music... Oh my, even manufactured pop artists sounded good back then. They all went for rawer, more mature and slightly more sincere-sounding records. While 90's sound ruled 2000 (Britney's 'Oops! I Did it Again' being a perfect example) and the first months of 2001, by 2002 the disgustingly cute bubblegum sounds of the late 1990's pop music were out.
Britney (Boys, Slave 4 U, Toxic)
Christina Aguilera (Dirrty, Beautiful, Fighter)
Justin Timberlake (Cry Me a River, Rock Your Body)
to name a few
I also miss the likes of Michelle Branch and Vanessa Carlton. Back then Avril Lavigne had better songs ('Complicated', 'Sk8er Boi', 'I'm With You', 'My Happy Ending'
) while 'Girlfriend' was sh****.
I think the best years music-wise were mid 2001 to mid 2004.
Heck, even Shania sounded her best back then (remember 'I'm Gonna Getcha Good!' ?)

Ten years ago most goods and services in my country costed 80-100% less than now while salaries were mostly the same*
*Salaries have increased, but there are far more and larger taxes now, so when you deduct the taxes, you're left with less money for spending than in 2002.

The early 00s was fine, with the exception of 9/11, until 2003. 2005/ summer of '06 were decent.

I am from Morocco. I graduated Elementary School in 1999-2000 (I am 24 years old now). 1999-2003 were the best years in my life. I've been exposed to American culture since my young ages. I would watch MTV with my older brother all day long. I was a big fan of Teen Pop (BSB, NSync, Britney Spears, Ricky Martin) & Rap (Eminem, Dr. Dre). I wasn't into fashion back then (guess I was too young for that), but I remember my brother wearing baggy pants all the time. I used to play Pokémon Yellow on my Game Boy Color a lot! I fell in love for the first time in my 8th grade year (2001-2002) ::). Falling in love with her made me love school! Unfortunately, I'd never had the occasion to talk to her (I was a coward :(). I visited my old Middle School a couple of months ago (hadn't been there in over 8 years). It brought back too many good memories.
There is never a day that passes by I don't think of those days. Every night before I lay down to sleep, I listen to old music. It helps take me back to my childhood, when life was simpler and much cooler. I really miss the early 00's.

Other than 2000 and maybe the first few months of 2001, I don't care to remember the early 2000's. Now 2004 and 2005, I wouldn't mind going back to. I didn't care for 2006 and 2007, but 2008 and 2009 were good times.

early 2000s was still 90s atleast until late 2002 even in late 2002 there still was a lil bit left. 2005 is the peak year so alot of ppl o this board hold it in high regard to the decade . 2006 was not bad either though maybe the 4th quarter of it was but the first 3 quarters of 2006 were good .

I'd take 2001-2004 over 2011-2014 any day. Back then music was better imo. And people were less dependent on the Internet. Now all we do is 'talk' via IM and Facebook. Back then people actually used to call you and to talk tete-a-tete. Now we're all cyber zombies, addicted to the Internet. I also miss the magazines made of paper, remember those? ;) Online magazines and news websites are just not the same, and they have comments sections where the dumbest people post silly remarks.

Facebook and social networking in general has ruined communication between people. In 2012, it seems clicking "Like" is the way people acknowledge that they know how they are doing.

I was into it for a short period; late 2009-about late 2010. I was posting where I am, what I am doing and clicked "like" quite a lot. At some point I found out, how ridiculous that actually is.

I graduated HS in 2000. Ill never forget that summer, driving around listening to Blink 182, sum 41, Good Charlotte, Brittany, Christina, Papa Roach, The Barenaked Ladies, SR-71, etc. I remember listening to the radio and actually LIKING most of the stuff that they played. Throughout 00-03 there was a lot of good electronic music as well and people still went to raves.
00-03 were incredible years. The movies were funny while still maintaining some decency. The fashions were cool. I miss the big long shorts, little sun glasses, skater t-shirts, girls wearing hip-hugger jeans, etc.
I miss the Nokia cell phone that everyone had that would only make calls and receive them. I miss how most people didnt spend 24/7 on social networking sites--now everyone is glued to their computer, laptop, or phone.
The economy was better. Things were funner. Life was beautiful. There probably isnt a day that goes by where those years dont cross my mind. People often ask me if id like to be 18/19/20/21 again and I have to explain that theres now way id want to be those ages in present times. Id do anything to go back to when I was those ages and relive those glorious years all over again.
Its funny but when I was living the life during those years I never thought they would leave such an impact on my life. I actually feel quite blessed to have been born when i was and that i was able to live through those incredible times.
It was around 04/05 that things just started to feel different, things started going downhill. The culture was changing and I havent liked it since. It was about 08 when I REALLY started to miss what life was like back in the glory days of the early 2000s. I really miss the fun music and cool fashions, everything is so different now.
Every night when Im laying in bed before I fall asleep I will listen to songs from back then and have this intense nostalgic feeling that wont go away. Then I go to sleep wake up the next morning and the sad reality hits me. Lets us never forget 2000-2003.
The best movie for that era is Groove. An all-night rave.

I totally agree with the OP, 2000-2003 were incredible. Well 2000 was so-so for me, 2001-2003 were a lot better and 2004 was quite good for me even though that was the last year 2001-2003 trends were popular. 2004 was like a warm-up year for the cultural shift we had in 2005. To this day I hate 2005 and 2006 for destroying the music trends from the 2001-2003/2004 time frame.
I even preferred 2001-2003 TV. Back then Just Shoot Me! was still current and it got cancelled in 2003. Dharma & Greg also started in the late 90's but it was still running in 2001-2002.
I even miss the Web from 2001-2004, websites were less flashy as a whole and images were simpler. Imagine running them on our current broadband/WiFi connections? Internet connections got a lot faster since then, but people tend to forget that websites got 'fatter' and heavier. I prefer the 2001-2004 simpler look of websites. You can still access the web circa 2001-2004, just go to the Internet Archive: http://www.bibalex.org/isis/frontend/archive/archive_web.aspx :)
Here's how Microsoft.com looked in 2003: http://web.archive.bibalex.org/web/20031205011159/www.microsoft.com/
Back then websites were not as image-heavy and they were mostly text-based with few images. Annoying animations were not that common. I miss that simplicity. :)

They were somewhat simpler than today and those were my high school years, but I'd rather go back to the '80s or '90s (pre-1997) of course. Still, it is just not old enough yet for me to really appreciate, as I'm still discovering '80s and '90s-based stuff that I missed as a child. The early 2000s are just dorky nowadays and need some more time to rest before they are born again as an era to cherish, particularly that immediate post 9/11 era and the start of the Iraq war. Still, the early 2000s had the late technology adapters still using snail mail to send letters (some still handwritten), listen to cassettes rather than CDs or the then-new MP3 players, and you would still see an '80s car on the road daily or almost daily, whereas nowadays its the '90s cars (and even some early 2000s) cars that are rapidly disappearing from the road. I just don't see the era of having an Internet URL in media on almost every page and TV program/commercial as "special" yet in my nostalgic mind.

I still have some videos that were taken of me in 2002 and 2003. They were taken with an old camcorder from 2002. I have not watched them since then so it's kind of a time capsule on video for me. It's exciting! I need a VHS player or the camcorder itself to watch them lol but I can't find it anywhere! I also have another video of me from 2005 which I really am wanting to watch since 2005 is one of my favorite years. I can't believe camcorders were still popular in the early 2000s, and today we don't even need them anymore. Also, I miss when CDs were still really popular early in the 2000s. It was so much fun when you could burn music on a CD with the old desktop computers and then playback on a personal CD player.

I know right?! I remember when my friends and I used to burn playlists and must-have albums from the latest artists that we liked back then. Brings back memories. I was still burning CDs in high school during the mid/late 00's for my P.E. class and because my car only played CDs and cassettes. In fact, I remember I was one of the few kids in high school who was still using a CD player until I got an iPod late sophomore year. As much as I love using my iPod, I'll always prefer buying a CD over buying a MP3. Nothing like owning the physical thing. 8)

Guess what I still did in the mid 00's: Our car (1995 model) only played cassettes. To listen to my mp3s in the car I burned an audio cd first and later dubbed that cd on a tape - That was the easiest method ;)

I really miss the time when the Mark 1 Ford Focus was new. It's still a great car and its design has matured better than that of most late 90's/early 00's cars. I think it influenced automotive design in general. It was launched in 1998 in Europe, so you can imagine how it looked parked next to other 90's cars:

I can completely understand. For me:
2000 If post-1990s magic existed, it existed in this year.
2001 & 2002 Awesome, but 2000 was better.
2003 - 2005 Great
2006 & 2007 This is the latest that mainstream pop culture in general could qualify as being cool.
2008 & 2009 Not all bad, but I'm hardly going to want late noughties pop culture back any time soon.
By the way, cars from the first half of the noughties were great. Anyone remember season three of Fear Factor, four people could win a 2004 Mazda Rx8?

I think the early 2000s sucked honestly. I hated the douchebaggery of that time. The GWB-loving, Limp Bizkit-listening, South Park-quoting, Avril and Nickelback-playing idiocy, and people always calling things 'gay' and 'retarded'. It was such a stupid, annoying immature time. ::) I prefer the late 00s/early 10s and of course the decades before 2000.

Speak for the crew!! Heck yeah I miss the best years of my life!!! times were simpler, a great years for discovery..., great awakening in Asia socioeconomic wise and it's the most self reflective era in western culture music and film wise (TV shows however are standard in general) so in other words very mature times for artists despite the teen pop phenomenon but even they are optimist bunch and half the time they do promote very positive/optimist hopeful messages for the future(though the other half is about being a hoar and douchebag xD and they were the pioneer of tweens phenomenons too) and douchebaggery did exist but it's not widespread and they are being make fun of!! the most diverse and totally carefree days everywhere and people have life!!! yet technologically accessible and just at that right balance in the lifestyle
Heck there were no laws recognised for cellphone and driving as well as news about getting cancer from them, or disorder from using too much technology. This phenomenon if wasn't counterwised with major disasters, everything will be so great. Personally I was in the peak of my childhood era and nothing can ever take that away and family was doing really well!!! and I do remember watching MTV often due to older sibling before 2002 and just have fun!!! everything was cheaper back then and less crowded. I would want to go back to period 1998-2005 Western world if I can!!
2004 and 05 was the core of the 2000s and it starts to wane its awesomeness a bit but TV is improving I must say ;), technology was more familiar with today but "Homeland" trends are emerging among society and 21st century problems starts to become apparent and coincides with the growing trend of douchebaggery with crank music (still fun to listen to but starts to become sour) and scene/emo stuff which I don't get... personally it was still good but it was life changing period for me (moving country), while being quite fond of the pop culture, without my personal circumstance, it would be the most forgotten period of my life :/
I loved the early 00's because it was the extension of the late 90s which was I think the most peaceful period of planet earth in general (2000 by my consideration that was the most peaceful year ever!! and it is the year of peace anyways xD)

I was born in 1988, and I miss the late 1998 - early 2005 period. Especially 2001-2004 (pop culture in 1998-2000 and 2005 was cringe-worthy). But my personal life was great in all those years. I detest the late 2005-present day period. While 1992-1994 were great years, I don't miss 1995-early 1998 at all!

I wonder how come no one mentioned cars. I miss most cars from 2000-2005, especially the European and Japanese ones. They had cleaner lines and didn't go for those over-styled kinetic designs that make them look like melting. With some exceptions (mostly from 2005 to 2009), I don't care about 2005-present cars.

2000 there was definitely still the 'teen pop' feel in the music industry. 2001, actually as early as 2000 I knew that rap was going to dominate the 00s decade, and I was right. 2001 mainstream music was pretty bad I gotta say and so was 2002. I prefer pop songs now, and I know I'm the minority in this opinion. 2000 music was still okay.
I loved The Grinch movie in 2000 though, it was an awesome movie, and still is to me! I also remember Harry Potter books being huge starting in 2000. I heard about it in 1999, but by 2000's Goblet of Fire book, the series was like a Beatles concert!
Even though I thought mainstream music was lame, I loved the atmosphere of the early 00s. I do also remember post-Grunge being huge.
I also remember Incubus's song 'Drive' from 2001, and became a huge hit in 2002.
Movies then were great in my opinion, I remember Shrek 2 in 2004.

Agreed. When I was a teenager I wanted to distance myself from my childhood. Now I get nostalgic for the '90s, but at 17-18 I didn't want anything to do with the person I was at 8-9.

Yes the early 00s were an extension of the late 90s. I miss those days... a lot.
Life was so much more exciting back then. We didnt have tablets or smart phones, and the only people who owned laptops were people who had money.
Nobody ever told you to “google it". And libraries were still being used for their books.
The music was fun and life was amazing. I still cant believe its been over 10 years, it seems like it was just yesterday. I miss those years with a passion. Im gonna cry.

I miss about the early 00's Internet! The fact that mostly highly educated people had computers and web access. Nowadays just about everyone has the Internet and it's no wonder there are so many flame wars, hatred online etc. Nowadays everyone is a no-lifer who's only social Interaction is online, even the celebrities turned from cool people to nerds. Don't get me wrong - I like computers, but I don't want them to be (ab)used by white (and all colors) trash. ;)

I'm starting to get more nostalgic for early 00s music myself. I miss a lot of the alternative you mentioned, but also a lot of the hip hop like Eminem, Ludacris, Mannie Fresh, etc. Yeah it was mostly shallow, but it had more attitude back then.

yes in those days the general public wouldnt have approved of teenage moms.... in those days society actually DISCOURAGED underage females from having babies. unlike today when its celebrated to the point of getting your own tv show if you do!
Well, could you please explain why teenage pregnancy in the US is the lowest it's been in a very long time? Many people complain about the moral decay and depravity of today(often holding the younger generation responsible) but often this view lacks evidence and (in your case about out of control teenage pregnancy) even contradicts facts and evidence.
So yes the economy is in the crapper, there is a wider gap between the rich and poor, our politics grow even more divisive but a lot of the social ills of the past have lessened in their severity. In pop culture I actually think 2003 was more debased and profane than 2013 is, in terms of music, fashion, ect.

Agree. Early 2000s pop culture seemed more aggressive and vulgar in general (aside from teen pop, which I guess could be considered aggressive compared to One Direction). Today's pop culture isn't all squeaky clean, but it's not as 'in your face' as it was back then.

For many this era wasn't so great. How can someone believe the early 2000s was more vulgar than today? This was probably the most conservative and dullest era in the last 15 years.
This probably had to be the least tolerant era in the 2000s. Remember bush was voted for twice, and right after September 11th, huge amounts of American prejudice came out of the closet, aside of the tragedy that struck many. Never was there a period where racism (on all sides) and racist humor was so tolerated.
Everyone was trying to play it safe in terms of dress, style etc... This is an era where macho and jock fashion and attitude were subliminally over-glorified in movies, media and music, and so on. Lets not forget the bubblegum girl, faux-gangsta/raver/pop singer trends reigned supreme And then all of a sudden in 2003 there was this short-lived mass acceptance of watered down "goth" and "punk" fashion, which just a year earlier one would receive death threats for simply wearing a decent amount of black and dr. martin/combat boots ( as opposed to forced dress code of at least including baggy bleached jeans, Abercrombie and finch or adidas superstars). Dressing like that alone could allow someone to be labeled potential school shooter or devil worshipper. Something that like would have never happened in the late 80's/ early-mid 90s or even today where dressing excessive or different is tolerated a lot more.
People were a lot of less open in the period from what I can remember. It wasn't until the mid 2000s when people starting opening up outside of their bubbles with on the talk against bush, climate change, environmental issues, gay marriage, healthy eating etc....Today people are more open, tolerant and aware than a decade ago.
Also what I didn't like about this period was how everyone pretended the early to mid 90s didn't exist or didn't really evolve into the 2000's. It was just whatever was on TRL that defined your hip hop influenced accent and attitude with your clique of friends. Also it seemed the majority of rock music (nu-metal and pop punk) tried to blend into this sports jock bubblegum image and thus everybody was into the same bands on some level. Today bands and pop artists are much more daring and experimental unlike this era.
2001 was a nightmare all the way through. It was like triple the negativity of the bad trends of 1997-1999. One of the dullest and lamest years ever. Sisqo? Fred Durst? Kylie Minogue? Any authentic music left at all other than less than 10 bands that aren't in the top 40 and eminem (which is debatable)
I don't know why people pretend that the internet was this new thing that only a few people had in 2000-2003, as far as I can remember most people I know had the internet by 2000 and were downloading music, watching videos and using it as the main information source all throughout 2000-2003. All businesses and companies were using the internet in the year 2000-2003 as well. The only era where most or half the world’s population still didn't use or have the internet was between late 94 mid 98.
Do we really miss silver painted bigger CRT TVs , and music that has tiny traces of 90s in it that much that it drives such a strong nostalgia for this era?
There are still a few companies that make VHS which discontinued releasing films in 2006. So along with floppies they aren’t really exclusive to this era. I think they still make CRT TVs.

Not really. Alternative was big back then. You had bands like System of a Down, Korn, Slipknot, etc. Teen pop was the dominant genre (especially in 00/01), but there was more vulgar music in the mainstream than today.
Everyone was trying to play it safe in terms of dress, style etc... This is an era where macho and jock fashion and attitude were subliminally over-glorified in movies, media and music, and so on. I agree with machoism being more blatant in the early 00s, and prep fashion (Abercrombie, American Eagle, etc.) being rampant. However, I never witnessed ANYONE recieve death threats for wearing black or dressing 'differently'. There were quite a few kids at my school who dressed that way. Nobody gave it a second thought unless someone had on a trenchcoat or something. Maybe it just depends on where you lived.

Only about half of American households had the internet in 2000. It didn't surpass television as people's main source of news until LAST YEAR. And most of the world's population STILL doesn't have internet access.

What about that french kiss with Madonna at the 2003 MTV Music Awards? :o

I will always perceive the early 2000's to the be decline of music. However looking back see that there was more effort and diversity in video art, and musicianship akin to the 90s in a few commercial artists. Example you no longer have commercial bands on MTV like primus or tool that put the same craft into their music, videos with a lot of dedicated fandom, yet those bands weren't dominant at that time.
Also I can remember following favorite bands or fads were different back then in the early 2000s. You had less options and everyone knew the same stuff. Back then there was sort of a pressure to be a major fan of something popular or circulated at the time and it seemed you were more dedicated to it, like being a prog. metal fan or a pantera fan etc... Where the same pressure i don't feel is the same today, it could be age or other reasons though.

I think the early 2010's suck honestly. I hate the douchebaggery nowadays. The Social Media-loving, Lil Wayne-listening, Family Guy-quoting, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj-playing idiocy, and people always saying stupid stuff "Swag" and "That Thug Life!. It is such a stupid, annoying immature time. ::) I would most definetly prefer take the Late-90's/Early-2000's and of course the decades before 2000 then live in the time we are in now.
Fixed for you:))))

i completely agree with the whole lipstick style. i look back at shows like "yes, dear" and they wear fashion that i notice and am more fond of.
on another note, i wish i could say those were my glory days, although i haven't the most clear of memories from the decade, being born in 99. i have more of a longing for more memories of the times. everything was so much simpler than it is today, with all the social media gaining most of the attention i miss just sitting with my dad, watching cartoons late at night, talking to my estranged mother over the phone. but now texting and messaging has become much more practical and i feel like its taken for granted now. i also miss the music.. that probqbly the best part and those are probably what i can remember most, as id always be on the big, clunky desktop, looking up music to listen to.
although i cant clearly remember the decade as it was, and look back on them like they were the halcyon days, i would give anything just to spend a day, or even a minute, playing with my father in the park, or talking with my mother on the phone, because the 2000's were probably the most influentual years i lived, even if i cant remember them like most of you.

I had brown lipstick! Some of it even had a scent, like mocha or vanilla, or coffee. It's colors were named for such things too.
Those really were fun years. I miss the songs, the styles, the freedom. We werent slaves to the internet back then. There was no "updating status" in those times. We actually called our friends and family and told them what was going on in our lives, or went to see them face to face. For most the extent of using the computer back then was getting directions somewhere or checking email. Life was so much simpler.
I miss the music, but as a rock fan, the stuff I hear these days isn't horribly different enough to me. Now pop music certainly isn't what I grew up with. As for updating statuses, things have become TOO convenient to the point creativity and well thought out blog updates are a thing of the past. Unless you're a blogger who is writing for an audience or for money, but I mean more of a personal nature like LJ and Xanga were.
Right on the money about that! When I was in middle school and high school, you caught hell for not wearing brands you were supposed to like, or liking popular things. Everyone was put in a category for it too, like "prep" "goth" "skater" "gangsta" and of course the people who leaned more towards "goth" (liked rock, wore concert shirts, and chains) were assumed to be freaks or nuts. ::) I don't know if it's different now, but back then it was like if you fell in line with a particular group, you HAD to fit in with them.

I'm still blown away by how so much has changed. The Early 2000s has my favorite sound of music in any decade. At least the music is some hope since the nostalgia you feel from the music is the vibe your feeling from that time. Also I'll add video game diversity. Gaming still had a sense of creativity then. I used to prefer Friday After Next over Next Friday, but then I realized the differences in colorfulness from Next Friday. I like how the movie give me that sudden sense the Early 2000s were establishing. I'd easily take 2000-2003 Hip Hop fashion over its counterpart today. I would definitely love to go back to the beginning of the era.

Agreed. When I was a teenager I wanted to distance myself from my childhood. Now I get nostalgic for the '90s, but at 17-18 I didn't want anything to do with the person I was at 8-9.
I was nostalgic for my childhood when I was 12. Although, one could call it homesickness rather than nostalgia, since I moved into a new city and desperately missed my hometown.

Definitely agree with you here, Kev. You watch the first Friday from 1995 and it's super 90's but when you get to the Friday movies from 2000 and 2002, they've got a distinct early 00s American Pie-vibe to them.

I'm super nostalgic for the time when I was 12-14 years old. I would do anything to go back. My childhood was pretty fun too but these years were so perfect I have the most nostalgia for that period by far.

Yeah, I went to a different school though in 11th grade and 12th grade. I consider that my high school since I graduated from there. The middle school I went to was 7th-9th, so I was there from 1998 through 2001. 2000 and 2001 were a quintessential part of my early 2000s experience. I then went to another school for only a year in 10th grade and then my parents moved and I transferred to the school I graduated from. It's hard for me to group my own 9th and 10th grade experiences with my 11th and 12th grade because they were so different.
I consider 2003 half/half between early '00s and mid '00s and 2004 fully mid '00s. Those were the definitive years of high school for me, so yes, the early '00s for me was latter middle school and early high school.

Oh I see! :) At my OLD school was preschool-8th grade, and the high school I went to was obviously 9th-12th. So for me the late 2000s was late grade school. Early 10s was mainly my HS experience, since I graduated in 2014.

You older dudes here may have disliked the early 2000s since those were you bullsh*t teenage years. But what I experienced in the early 10s as a teen, and what I've experienced now as a young black man in my 20s in the mid 10s; It made me appreciate the early 2000s even more.
and I'll say this, speaking as a black man; I just wish I was born in 1985 so I could have been a teen in the very late 90s and early 00s since ''my people's'' culture was kicking back then. Now society sucks sooo bad for people like me, and the early 10s society felt fake and forced in many ways.
I actually wish I was an early Yer, cause as a late Yer I'm more of a 00s fan than a 10s fan currently. My mindset could change in the late 10s, but right now that's how I feel.

Well, as I've said before, I'm an early '00s teen that loves that time period. It's really just all relative to what kind of experience you had during your middle and high school years. For some kids, that can be a really rough time, but I guess I was lucky because, for me, ages 13-17 were pretty awesome.
It does seem like alot of folks almost naturally feel like that things were "cooler" for the generation of teens before them, perhaps because of the allure of a time period that they were really too young to experience. I heard alot of teens my age growing up talk about how they wished they'd been in high school during the Grunge explosion in the early '90s, and now I'm seeing younger teens wishing they'd been in high school in the early '00s. It seems like I'm one of the few people I know that's actually perfectly content to have grown up during the time period that I did. ;D

All of my income will most likely come from my Yu-Gi-Oh deck.

Is that holographic Alakazam a 1st edition by any chance? I have a Pokemon card value guide from back in 1999 that has that card listed as the fourth rarest 1st edition card, worth about $65 back then.

I might get nostalgic for my late adolescent years (ages 17-19 in 2010-2012) when I grow older, but ages 11-16 in 2004-2009 were complete stank ass for me :o
Kinda the same way I feel about the very late 00s and early 10s.

I don't like the 2000's in general; including the early years. My favorite part of the early '00s were the cartoons, the commercials, and some of the movies. The music is not to my taste, particularly the mainstream Top 40 stuff. The songs that I do like from that era are the more musically unique ones. They hit other charts instead of the bIllboard Hot 100, although you did have an occasional unique song become a hit. Here's an example:
Start the Commotion - The Wiseguys
Rockstar - N.E.R.D.
One More Time - Daft Punk
Move Your Feet - Junior Senior
Chihuahua - DJ BoBo
Obsesión - Aventura
I See Right Through to You - DJ Encore
Aicha - Outlandish
Stare at the Sun - Thrice
I Miss You - Blink-182
Mad World - Michael Andrews
Way Away - Yellowcard
The Bitter End - Placebo
Clockworks - Autopilot Off
That's all I can think of right now. Only one chart hit, yeah. By the way, is this Jordan's old account?

Haha, nah, this is my first account on here. You'd think this was me (everything posted above is spot on, though) but I wouldn't drive around to Britney, Christina, Barenaked Ladies and Papa Roach. I hate their music! 8-P

Yes and those sucked too. In the late 90s and early 00s I was listening to stuff like NoFX, Lagwagon, Home Grown and blink-182.

Haha, I don't like that pop princess-type music but back in the day there were lots of good Pop Punk songs playing on the radio. That is the stuff I miss! The Epi-Fat skate beat was everywhere at the time: on mainstream radio and at underground shows. Too bad that all changed... :-\\

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that's an unlimited edition Alakazam. It still has value, but it's not worth as much as a 1st edition version would have been.

Oh yes, he plays bootleg Simple Plan. :P
SR-71's first album isn't horrible but that awful wannabe Linkin Park CD from 2002 just makes me wanna puke my dinner. I swear to god he even raps on one of the songs.

I have no problem with Barenaked Ladies. "One Week" may be overplayed, and more than a little cheesy, but it's a fun little song that gives me a serious case of middle school nostalgia. Also, Stunt was one of the earliest CD's I got after my parents brought me my first CD player, so that's gotta be worth something.

Alcohol my permanent accessory...

Welp, here we are in 2020, this post came true. People complained about 2012 at the time and missed the early 2000s. Now things have escalated so much that 2012 seems like simpler times.

99 and the very early 2000s were mostly a good time for me. I had just bought my first house. I could do most anything online with the dial up connection. I got married and started a family. She left in 2003 but that year had a lot of memories too raising my kid alone when she was here.
But no way I would go back. I went through a lot of hard times to get where I am now. It would be like starting over.

Summer 2020 will be more epic. It's gonna have the "party before the end of the world" vibes before the second wave of COVID-19 comes. You guys better enjoy it, and I will ban anyone who complains about this respite.

Who would've thought that in the Summer of 2001 that The world would experience the Twin Towers collapsing. :(

The Summers of the early 00's made the era for me.
Summer 2000- The summer I read Harry Potter.
Summer 2001- Our family moved to a new house, and I made this comic to amuse myself!
Summer 2002- I made another comic to amuse myself. I was deep into horror forums at this time.
Summer 2003- I was in my 'Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Madonna' phase, and continued my online forum era!
I remember Eminem being huge during this era. Obviously, 1999 to 2005 will always be his biggest era!

Summer 2020 was a wash, and a waste of vacation days. I didn't get those vibes unless you consider rioting and looting as "partying before the end of the world". I wouldn't want to participate in any parties as they likely weren't wearing masks and too many people close together.

I honestly don't think I've been nostalgic (2010s) for a decade this quickly before in my life. Like, remember back when we didn't have to wear masks and socially distance ourselves? Good times. ;D

The early 2000s were the years I grew up basically, so I miss it from time to time. Watching Ed, Edd N' Eddy in my room all day on Saturdays and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch, and some nice Pizza Hut pan pizza for dinner and washed down with some ice cold Pepsi while watching something like "Back To The Future" or some other movie that's playing on TV with my family. I'm hoping 2021 will be the year we might go back to some type of normalcy, if these Vaccination trials work out well in the long run.

Really cool memory, and Ed, Edd n' Eddy was one of my favorite shows growing up (the reruns and their episodes at school).

I loved Toonami. I had a crush on Swayzak and TOM 2.
SpongeBob was the funniest show on TV, even though I was more of a CN kid. Pearl was my favorite character.
I also went to Japan to visit my family in 2003. It was nice there.
