Subject: When will the 00s be made fun of?

I don't mean people just generally saying it sucks, I mean made fun of in specific ways like the 80s was unfortunately made fun of in the 90s.

Aren't they already make kind of fun of the very early part of the decade; the teen pop era?

The Glam/Snap Rap music that was so popular in the mid '00s is not looked back on too favorably these days. It also seems like there's been a backlash going on against Emo for years now.

Yeah, I remember there was backlash against emo when it was actually going on.

Late 90s/Early 2000s are teased pretty often like someone said. Of course, they are also nostalgic. Overall the 2000s will be made fun of in a few years I think.

meh I would say it's still pretty early for it to be considered "cheesy"

The mid 2000s were another world compared to the early 2010s.  It really was.  Fashion was dif.  The attitude was diff.  Facebook wasnt even big.  Internet was diff.  When ppl say  the 2000s were diffrent  YES they were if you think about how much changed between  october 2008 to now.  The change is as slight as the  80s to 90s. The music of the tens is  what the 00s never was. AND we knew  snap rap and emo was a fad as it happened .

I agree that today is to the "peak '00s" to what 1992 laughed at to the '80s. Sure, lots of '00s things (mostly later decade) have carried over into the new '10s, such as Wii, XBOX 360, "Going Green", organic foods, Yoga, and Crocs, and there is still some 2009ish electropop on the radio. Then of course we'll have fixtures that will likely stay for quite some time, just like CNN, MTV, and franchises like Transformers and Super Mario did in the '80s, and those will likely include Avatar, Kung Fu Panda, Facebook, and Youtube, which were all made in the '00s but will have lasting power. I view 2012 as distinct from 2006 just like how I view 1992 distinct from 1986; you can clearly see some leftovers with each (lots of 2006 shows are popular in reruns for example), but you can also see how various styles have changed as well.

Anyways, we still make fun about how George W. Bush was not a very good president and how he slowed down the economy and outsourced jobs. 50 Cent is seen as a joke today, whereas in the '00s, he was all the rage.

Really? In my opinion you could much better distinguish beteen an '86 and an '92 movie than you can between a '06 or a '12 movie. While '86 seems quite old in comparison to '92, this is not the case with '06 vs. '12 IMO; considering hairstyle, fashion, technology, cars...

Maybe '96 vs. '02 would fit more, but mid 80's and early 90's are like two different worlds.

its weird seeing movies  made in 2007 and 2006  such as  The Dark Knight  that was released in late 2008  and thinking that was what the 00s were lol.  Sometimes when you watch movies from 2008 and 2009 you have to remember they were filmed  the year prior to it so all references and fashion in them  are from the  core 2000s mid years.

The 00's is the first decade which make it hard to distinguish if a movie has been released in the earlier, mid or later part of the decade - but especially mid vs. today is very difficult.

Its weird cuz you watch a 2009  film and it looks modern with the widescreen aspect ratio and in Hd with ppl on macbooks.  Then you think  Macbooks on the outside always look the same they have since 2005.  Then you see someone with a ipod slim the one that was a stick and ur like wow this must be 2005. Then you see someone on myspace so you are like is this 2006?

Well early 2000s is pretty distinguishable. Once we get better technology we will see some differences in the mid and late 00's as well.

Agreed, 1992 is like significantly different even from 1990, which still had a very 80s feeling to it. I'd say the difference between 2006 and now is even smaller than 1996 and '02 as well. 2002 to me is barely distinguishable from today aside from slightly less advanced technology and more 90s leftovers such as OutKast and Brandy and Monica still being around, while 1996 seemed fairly old already by 2002.

Let's put it this way, if I woke up in a city I wasn't familiar with in the year 2002, I almost certainly wouldn't have noticed that I'd traveled in time as well as space until I saw a calendar or something. I'd probably just think I was in a poorer neighborhood that couldn't afford new cars or smart phones and wasn't up on fashion, at worst.

If the year I woke up in was 1996 on the other hand, the difference would be a lot more obvious, due to the old school logos on stores and the fact most of the cars on the road would be from the late 70s, 80s and early 90s.

I'll cast a vote for Dubstep.

I actually like the stuff, which is a pretty good sign it'll be made fun of in the glaring 20/20 (or is that 2020) vision of hindsight.

I disagree.

Fashion? The bling-gangsta look/music that was SO popular throughout the 00s is now a joke. Ditto emo/pop-punk.

Cars??? The auto industry is RADICALLY different comared to just a few years ago. In 2006, the automakers were still pushing gas guzzlers. Hybrids were around, but just a niche. Today, big 00s SUVs are shunned and everything is all about hybrids and econoboxes. Not to mention the more modern scifi-ish styling of today.

Hairstyles haven't changed much, that's true.

I'd say the 1986 to 1992 comparison is pretty accurate.

the hair I'll always associate with the 00s, at least for teenage guys, is that long, shaggy, California/skater-ish(?) hair. Kind of like this:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_zbo_YdNKNaQ/S4abSKpp8RI/AAAAAAAAADA/yiDM0s8qLEw/s200/Casual-Wavy-Shag-hairstyle-picture.jpghttp://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/49136_100000331868242_2298_n.jpg

It was all the rage around '05-'06. Very 60s-inspired, apparently.

People already are making fun of it. Especially people talking about the myspace days, emo kids and other stuff. Idk, but in the mid 00s was just a different vibe. Youtube was starting out before it sold out to google, myspace was awesome, music was slightly different than it is today. Even the early 00s you had boybands and teen pop acts which people still make fun of till this day. I even hear people talking about the "soulja boy" days. I think in the mid 10s is when the entire decade will be "nostalgic, maybe even in the early 2020s.

That Grandma's Boy trailer doesn't look THAT dated to me, as I do see a widescreen TV in the living room ('00s enough for me), a couple regular XBOX controllers (early '00s), and a Halo 2 poster (2004), plus a lot of the posters in the video game room are pretty '00s and not '90s looking. It definitely does't quite look '90s old to me, and looks pretty indicitive of the time (a mash-up in decades along with some current things). So technologically, current, but stylistically, a little behind the times.

Even in 2012, the interior of our living room is still 90's, with some 80's stuff in it because our house was built in 1981. You don't always buy new stuff/furniture.

I think ringtone rap is easy to poke fun of along with the reality show boom(2000-2004/mid 2005.) The teen-pop era of 1999-2000/mid 2001 is easy to poke fun of as well but that era was more of a tweener between the 90's and 00's so it can't be grouped in with the 00's exclusively.

People make fun of the reality show boom? It's basically its own established genre now, like sports shows or documentary shows.

The reality shows of that time were cheesey though.

I disagree. It doesn't look 90s to me. But this 2007 trailer for a movie which was released the following year, looks 90s IMO:
