What actually started it?  Was it the film, The Wedding Singer or something else?

???

The I Love The 80's series on VH1 made the 80's nostalgia explode in 2002!

What 80s revival?  There's been some nostalgia via computer games but there's been no main 'revival', I don't see people walking around with the huge big hair etc they had.

I don't like it when people compare decades to others.  Each decade has it's own individuality.

I don't see very many similarities with this decade and the 80's.

This decade is probably 70sish with interests and people trying to maintain the hippie lifestyle, although I see the 2000's as just that, the 80's as the 80's, and the 70's as the 70's. There's no sense in bringing one back when it already happened.

However, I see a difference with that and nostalgia.

It may have came when both The Angry Video Game Nerd and The Nostalgia Critic became popular.

Does this mean that there will be a 90's revival in the 10's ? ???

Maybe.

Maybe, I should have rephrased as re intrest, especially with Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen and G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, being big box office hits.

Um. Seriously. The 80's are more than definitely coming back.
The 90's won't be making a comeback for a while. How could you say the
90's are coming back when we're JUST getting into the 80's fashion making a huge comeback?
For the past decade its been mostly 70's, maybe a few 80's inspired fashions. But this year, it was mostly 80's.
And I tell you what, if its the 90's coming back, how come everyone at the mall and kids walking home from school wear skinny jeans, Members Only styled jackets, tons of big colorful bracelets, colorful earrings, colored skinny jeans, off shoulder t-shirts,
oversized hoodies (a new version of the oversized sweater since they haven't really made a comeback and everywhere in stores), blazers with big shoulderpads, etc.

Another thing, synthesizers are popular in music again and many artists are trying to recreate the 80's sound
on their newer songs/albums.

I didn't mean to come off as sounding rude in the last post, so
don't take it like that. :P Sorry.

I wanted to add:

The only thing I've seen 90'sish is the plaid, but I've mostly seen the plaid
incorporated in some of the 80's styles that have come back. However, the flannel jackets
are back.

I dunno, maybe there's more to this than meets the eye.

Sure, it's the same formula as Cartoon Heroes, but there's a reason late-90s/early-00s pop/dance act Aqua can come back - after a nine-year silence - with Back to the 80s in mid-2009.  Cute song, and the green-screen background solves any copyright issues by making it easy for fans to grab it and mix it up themselves by adding background video as appropriate.  A very Web 2.0 tribute to an era whose music - based in part on the synthesizer, the sequencer, and the sampler - heralded the birth of remix culture.

"When Eminem was just a snack,
When Michael Jackson's skin was black,
Back when the coolest thing in store,
Was a Commodore 64..."

I was gonna type up a list of lyrical references, but the Internet beat me to it.
