US actress Farrah Fawcett, who has been battling cancer for almost three years, has been admitted to a Los Angeles hospital, according to reports.

The 62-year-old Charlie's Angels star has been in an unidentified hospital since Thursday, People magazine said.

A spokesman for the actress has not yet commented on her condition.

Diagnosed with anal cancer in September 2006, Fawcett declared herself cancer-free four months later, only to have the disease return in May 2007.

She shared her experiences of battling the disease with footage she released to the media in 2008.

Her big TV break came in 1976 when producer Aaron Spelling cast her in Charlie's Angels as one of the crime-fighting heroines.

Separately, Los Angeles police say the star's 24-year-old son with actor Ryan O'Neal has been arrested on a drug charge just months after he and his father were charged with drug possession.

Redmond O'Neal was arrested on suspicion of bringing drugs into a jail and is currently being held on $25,000 (£17,000) bail.

He was previously arrested in September and charged with possession of methamphetamine while on probation for a previous drug conviction.

When I first heard she was ill with cancer, the news report had it that she is gravely ill with it.

I loved her as the Mayor's girlfriend on 'Spin City'.  The story was that she was separated from her husband, but still legally married, so she had to keep her relationship with the Mayor very secretive, and the many ways they did just that made for some hilarious moments

Enduring a two and half year battle with cancer, those closest to Fawcett warn that these could be her final hours.

"I'm not sure if she's going to make it through the day," Walters said on "Good Morning America." "She's had her last rites."

As Fawcett clings to life, members of her inner circle, Dr. Lawrence Piro and longtime love Ryan O'Neal are gathered at her hospital bedside.

"This is all he wants to do is be with her," Walters said of O'Neal.

From her glory days as a pinup girl whose figure graced a generation of teenagers' walls, to her valiant fight against cancer, at 62, Farrah Fawcett has become a symbol of the will to live.

Those who know and love Fawcett spoke exclusively to Barbara Walters, during what appear to be the actress's final days.

A private funeral for actress Farrah Fawcett will be held on Tuesday, it has been announced.

The service will take place at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles at 1600 local time, church officials said.
