There's a lot of talk about videos getting cleared off Youtube.  I'm not finding nearly as many gone as the hype suggests.  Perhaps this is because I rarely search for today's hot sellers. 

Let's try to document what is really gone.  Post on this thread anything from music videos to movie clips to TV spots.  Also indicate if the video is still there but the sound is muted.  Amateur cover versions, mock videos, and re-enactments don't count.

Also mention if something previously deleted has been reposted.

I remember they did that with a live acted version of a Garfield strip(from the Lasagna Cat site). This was due to the fact that part of Manic Monday plays in the vid, which of course, Prince wrote.

Robot Chicken clips get deleted pretty quick as well.

When I do some of my parodies for upload(I don't know that will be), they better not remove them. I know they're under fair-use(I don't know remember what's it called), but you never know when someone will get uppity on there. >:(

Well, to start with, there was one of Escape Club's "Wild Wild West" which featured black & white images of...well, the Wild, wild West. I listened to that one on 12 November 2008...and I tried going back to it a few days ago and it was gone. (I'd posted the link on "What song from any decade are you listening to right now" so I could go back and listen to it later if I wanted to.)

The movie "Tell Them Johnny Wadd is Here" is still on Youtube, but they took out all the sex scenes.

They did that with "Deep Throat," posting just the in-between sex scenes.  It succeeded in making the film seem MORE pornographic than it actually was!

Yeah...I noticed some of the vids have had their audio removed! What a shame! :-[ I think it's unfair because then you can't hear the audio, which is an essential part of most of the vids!

The article says it's UK only, but I wonder if it will lead to a snowballing effect of UK artists/labels pulling videos from Youtube altogether. 

I'll tell you one thing's pretty certain to me.  If the world continues to slide into recession, the demand for "free" entertainment might get high enough to overwhelm the demands of the corporations.

It is all down to people copying them for their own use, thus breaching the copyright laws.

I'd recommend Google Video. It integrates MANY video sites into one, and you can even find Warner Bros. stuff on there. I would buy some flash drives and download as many videos as possible before they are gone, however!

  This is news to me.  I have read something about a spin-off site for all the "videos' as they call it.  Basically most of what's on there now, but yeah, they're not releasing many details...

Guys I've brought up this point so many times before, but if these idiot recod company executives would think for a second, they would realize having music videos, concert footage, interviews and stuff on YouTube PROMOTES those artists and regenerates interest! That's only a positive thing. :)

That exposure will make new fans (you can't expect someone to like a band if they've never heard of them) and older ones might see a video and suddenly remember "Oh yeah dude, I liked that back in 1989". If a kid or otherwise new/returning fan can see stuff like this, it might ENCOURAGE them to go buy a cd or at least legally download the song off itunes. Maybe not everyone would, but at least a fraction would. Even if it was only 15% it's still something. When you add it up, that's alot of people, even if it doesn't sound like it at first glance.

YouTube is what radio was for years (before Clear Channel), and what MTV and VH1 were in their pre-reality tv glory days... the prime way people discover music or other things they like. The way they fuss about people watching a music video online now is just like how they used to get uptight about people taping songs off the radio back in the day (and who didn't, lol).

One reason I specifically like to look up music videos on Youtube (even if I've seen it before or have on tape) is to see what other people are saying about it. It's almost like a little messageboard, so it's really cool to be able to do that with something that's personal to you, like a song from my childhood. Or what I might've thought or noticed in the video back then.

I feel the same with tv shows or sitcoms, especially things that haven't been brought into the modern era as much (i.e. Rescue 911 episodes).

  However, kids lighting their hair on fire, v-logging crackpots and illegal content are not attractive to advertisers.  Online TV is all the rage, and that's where the $$$ is...

I think I dropped by your you tube channel.  The one I hit was all Tears for Fears.  If it was yours, you did a nice job on the channel. :)  Not really sure of what you should do.  You tube is kind of frantic with deleting things these days.

I'm not sure if Roland is involved with Creative Commons but Curt is and he doesn't care who uses his music or TFF's music as long as you're not making money from it.  I'm not in the habit of laying claim to something that isn't mine.
This is what pisses me off about You Tube.  You have a song that you like by a band that you like, you want to pay tribute to that band, and, boom, the label is all over you like a cheap wool suit.   8-P
