Subject: Any fans of Peanut Butter..There is a big recall.
Written By: ninny on 01/19/09 at 6:46 am
470 people have been affected in more than 43 states and 90 of those people had to be hospitalized, and 6 people have died because of it.
Officials are focusing on peanut paste, as well as peanut butter, produced at a Blakely, Ga., facility owned by Peanut Corp. of America. Its peanut butter is not sold directly to consumers but distributed to institutions and food companies. But the peanut paste, made from roasted peanuts, is an ingredient in cookies, cakes and other products.
The announcement by McKee Foods Corp. of Collegedale, Tennessee, about two kinds of Little Debbie products was the latest in a string of voluntary recalls following the most recent guidance by health officials.
McKee said it had not received any complaints about illnesses from people who ate any size peanut butter toasty sandwich crackers or peanut butter cheese sandwich crackers. The recall covers crackers produced on or after July 1.
ConAgra Foods, the maker of Peter Pan peanut butter also yesterday said none of its products are associated with the outbreak.
Kelloggs, which listed Peanut Corp. of America as one of its suppliers, has recalled 16 products in the US. McKee said Kelloggs manufactured the Little Debbie crackers covered by the recall.
The Kellogg products recalled include Austin and Keebler branded peanut butter sandwich crackers, and some snack-size packs of Famous Amos peanut butter cookies and Keebler Soft Batch Homestyle peanut butter cookies.
Peanut Corp. has recalled all peanut butter produced at the Georgia plant since Aug 8 and all peanut paste produced since Sept 26.
Health officials are focusing on 30 companies out of a total of 85 that received peanut products from the plant.

The article I saw said that jarred peanut butter such as Jif is o.k. it is the products containing peanut paste (such as certain flavours of ice-cream) that are to be avoided.
(btw Jif was the name of a brand of cream cleaner in the UK ! )

It's prolly the same thing; they just tweak one molecule between the cleaner and the PB.
Skippy's my brand. No worries. I did notice Stop & Shop removed a sizabel portion of the protein bars. A whole bunch of the contain peanuts & peanut butter.

Haven't you changed to calling it Cif yet? It changed in the UK a few years ago. Like the Marathon/Snickers thing it was to bring us 'in-line' with the rest of Europe. ::)
