Subject: A 'Streets of Fire' Sequel
Written By: whistledog on 11/04/08 at 12:35 am
Streets of Fire, a 1984 cult classic; my all-time favourite movie. Hollywood has just made a mockary of it and I am not happy. Released in 2008, 'Road to Hell' sees Michael Paré reprise his role as Tom Cody and Deborah Van Valkenburgh as Reva, Tom's Sister.
SYNOPSIS: The war has taken quite a toll on Tom Cody, to the point where he snaps, and transforms into a psychotic serial killer. In order to find salvation from his demons, he returns home in search of Ellen Aim, but in his travels, he crosses paths with two female serial killers.
Ellen Aim is played by Anita Leeman and McCoy is played by Lauren Sutherland. Neither actress is well-known, and I can only assume that Diane Lane and Amy Madigan both had the common sense to avoid this film as I am sure the producers approached both to reprise their roles
I will get the DVD of this only because I am such a fan of the original, but I won't be happy :\'(

As I read this I kept hoping I slept through a few months and suddenly awoke to find it April 1, 2009.
I really hope this is a joke post like that remake of the Ernest movies
but alas... I went to imdb.com and there it is http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1253859/
there is no other term for it Jason... they are raping the original for this drivel... the film would have to be as well written as Silence of the Lambs to come close to making it acceptable in my mind.
I am shocked and appalled and someone will be getting a nasty email from email soon as I figure out who's truly to blame!

I thought Tom got all his aggressions out in the final fight scene with Raven (Wilem Dafoe) in the first film. geez, they fought each other with pick axes, Tom won, and now he's a serial killer ??? I'll watch it, and give it a chance, but with the 2 main females played by 2 unknowns, I'm not gonna like it as much. the original is an enjoyable film, to be sure 8)

What's next? A "Tuff Turf" sequel? A "High Road to China" sequel?
:D

I've almost lost respect for Paré, simply for aggreeing to reprise his role of Tom Cody for this travesty. I love how on IMDb, they've got Deborah Van Valkenburgh credited as 'Sister'. I mean her character does have an actual name. I can't really say much for Van Valkenburgh because the only thing other than 'Streets of Fire' that I've seen her in is 'Too Close For Comfort', which remains one of my all-time favourite TV Shows
'Streets of Fire' would've launched Michael Paré into a action superstar, and was s'posed to be the first in a trilogy of movies featuring the character of Tom Cody, but it's failure at the box office put an end to that. What makes it the cult classic that it has become is largely due in part to the film's soundtrack, which produced the Top 10 hit 'I Can Dream About You' by Dan Hartman (In the film, the vocals are sung by Winston Ford)
The first hommage ever paid to 'Streets of Fire' was the 1990 video game 'Final Fight' which was inspired by the film. In it, three heroes (one named Cody) travel on a mission to rescue the Mayor's daughter who has been kidnapped by a ruthless gang of thugs

I never drew a connection of Final Fight to Streets... that's pretty cool.

You say "The Warriors" and I hear *clink-clink-clink* "Warriors come out to play!"

Another good thing about this film is that both Joel Silver and Walter Hill had the common decency to not be connected with this, apart from their work on the great 1984 classic
I am a BIG fan of Silver Pictures; Joel has produced some great films 8)
