You'll be surprised that the name problem of the 2000s is NOT only found in the English language:
Not only English-speaking countries have this 2000s name problem. For example, in ] the decade is usually called ''The first few years from the 21st century'' or simpler ''The beginning of the 21st century'' (Bulgarian: ''Първите години на 21 век'' and ''Началото на 21 век''), whether the 1990s are called ''The 90's'' (Bulgarian: ''90-те'') or the ''the 90's from 20th century'' (Bulgarian: ''90-те години на 20 век''). The same scheme is applied to the 1980s, 1070s and previous decades. The name problem also exist in other ] languages like ] and ].

What did they call the 1900s? Just the 1900s. I recently read that the current generation is called generation RX because of their fondness for [prescription drugs.

The name for the decade with develop after the decade has finished, not now while it is still happening.
