Subject: Metrosexuality/Androgyny

Written By: apollonia1986 on 06/26/08 at 7:57 pm

Hi Everyone.

This has been on my mind for a few days. I know that a few years ago, for a hot minute, for men, being a metrosexual was in. A straight man who went to the spa for grooming such as manicures, pedicures facials,  bodywaxing--known as "manscaping", etc..

And I'm wondering do you think that Metrosexuality in the 2000s answer to the 1980's Androgyny? While metros are more sedate than androgs were, you can kind of see the similarity. Men doing things that were percieved as being feminine. In the 80s it was wearing make up, now it's putting on clear finger nail polish.

What do you think?

I think it is the answer to the 80s androg.  :)

I don't know if it's as much about androgyny as it is about the unibrow being nasty.  Men finally wised up and waxed!  ;D

No it's not as out there as androgyny. It's more a case of what Ladybug says, men are just more aware of personal hygiene and the idea of looking after their hair/skin. In the 80's it was about making a statement.

Androgyny was way cooler than metrosexuallity(btw what an obnoxious word 8-P).
I'm not sure how much women really appreciate a metro, to me a guy who spends more time grooming than a girl is a major turn off. Men should be glad they don't have to go through all the sheesh we as women have to.

It's getting the balance right though yes? you wouldn't want a completely ungroomed guy either surely?  8-P

Completely ungrommed to me is unwashed, unshaved, in clothes that have been worn all week long and with teeth that haven't seen a tooth brush in months...............................vomit.

No hotties with facial hair, for you? Clothes not washed make you smell bad so does not using a tooth brush. So i keep my motto!

Hey maybe i'm just easy ;)

Some might be. ;)

I was thinking of groomed/ungroomed as another way to talk about trimming/shaving/waxing the naughty bits on your body. :D

I have an idea of what my ideal "groomed" man is. I think he's a little metro, but not overly so.

I like a man that takes care of his appearance, is clean and smells nice and dresses well. Also, he can have facial hair, as long as it's well kept. Can't be looking like Grizzly Addams or anything. And he must have TWO eyebrows...neatly kept.

(My friend says I just described Prince to a "T")  ::)

But most of the guys I've dated are just like him--slightly metro. Um, and taller. LOL.

And I know if this were 1988, I'd be on the arm of androgynous man.  :)

Initially, I thought 'metrosexuality' was about having an abnormal attraction for cars (and believe me, I read recently about a man in the US that managed to have sex with his car . . .).

Anyway, digressing, I just think androgony and metrosexuality are basically a gender's way of getting in touch with their opposite gender side.

Hmmm...  Makes me wonder.  Exactly how would one have sex with a car? ??? ??? ???

Thanks to the Internet, we now know that for a male, it involves either a somewhat acrobatic approach to the exhaust pipe (we assume the car's been off for long enough to return to room temperature), or removing the fuel filler cap, and then doing what comes unnaturally.

As for females, I'm going to cite Kristy Vant singing Chrissy, My Little Chromosexual on Dr. Demento in 1982.  Since the lyrics aren't available online, and since the audio stream is, I've tried to transcribe the lryics, but I've only got about 95% of 'em.  Can anyone fix the (?uncertain?) parts over on the thread I set up on the Lyrics board?

Fuel filler cap?  Now that's just plain revolting.  That guy coud mess up his fuel injection system.  ;D

Any guy who could do such things to the tailpipe of any car (well maybe other than a '77 Chevette) could have a bright future in porn.  ;D ;D

I have no problem with guys being "metro" or taking good care of themselves, but don't overdo it.. those who become obsessed with their eyebrows and take longer to get ready than girls proposes a real problem..

I don't have a problem when guys pay attention to grooming.  You gotta look good, I say.

But you'll never catch me getting my nadular area waxed.  That is going a bit too far...  :P

Firstly, I think metrosexuality is repulsive.

I don't know if it is the answer to 80's androgyny. I do like men wearing make up in the eighties, such us Robert Smith.

Without taking the decade into account, I definitely prefer Marilyn Manson's androgyny.
