No long paragraph of my own opinion this time, as I really don't know. :)

I guess it depends how you define "alternative". If you mean indie hip hop, probably not. Hip hop will probably continue its trend of becoming more and more like teen pop.
No I don;t think I would put Hip-Hop in the teen-pop category its more like like Pop/R&B now. I don;t know if alternative hip-hop will get big because the record company's want a trend thats still gonna cater to the Top 40 radio audeience but rebelloius in a a way like an artist like 50 Cent was. I'll leave it at that for now.

What is alternative hip hop? Is it music like Atmosphere and Gym Class Heroes?
Its like "Tribe Called Quest". Gym Class Heroes are like EMO-Rap or Pop-Rap in my opinion.

Old school New York hip hop? Sadly, i don't think it will ever be more popular than it was 15 years ago.
Well I think "Talib Kweli" could be alternative Hip-Hop too and I saw his music video yesterday on BETJ.

It can get huge all it wants. There is no feeling put into it any more, just wacky nonsense.

Atlernative hip hop is actually an old hat, its been done as early as 1992 with Arrested Development, at the tail end of hip hop's golden age.
Maybe in the next decade a certain kind of hip hop will come back with a more socially conscious vibe, I doubt it'd be underground, but maybe it would at least give the impression of emphasizing hip hop's culture as well as its promotion power, kind of lack the balance we had back in the 90s. The 00s have been nothing but business and exploitation.

It's hard to predict what will be popular in the future, but I can't see rap the way it is now still being popular 5 or 10 years from now.
