Like the other top film-producing countries, Canada has an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Every year, the Genie Awards are held to give proper acclaim to the best in Canadian film. This year's ceremony, held in Toronto, was hosted by Sandra Oh, and aired in Canada on E! Television and IFC.
Best picture: Away From Her.
Actor: Gordon Pinsent, Away From Her.
Actress: Julie Christie, Away From Her.
Supporting actor: Armin Mueller-Stahl, Eastern Promises.
Supporting actress: Kristen Thomson, Away From Her.
Director: Sarah Polley, Away From Her.

I totally forgot 'Eastern Promises' was a Canadian fil. Directed by the great David Cronenberg 8)
I knew 'Away From Her' would take the top prizes. Everyone seems to be talking about that movie

Yeah, Eastern Promises is an international collaboration (Canada, UK, US).
Away from Her really did deserve it. It is such a great film. If you haven't seen it, I suggest renting it. As a CanCon lover, you will be thrilled.
