I think I found what will be my all-time favourite song of 2008 ...
International DJ Basshunter stormed the UK chart at #1 in January of 2008 with Now You're Gone, an english remake of his 2006 hit Boten Anna. My god this song is so good, I can't get enough of it!

I am told that the original version 'Boten Anna' appears in the computer game Counter Strike, but I have not played that game so I am not sure

Well, he's already had the hit with the original version over here...Don't think it'll work twice. Besides, I like the original version better.

Yes, I heard and 'acquired' the song recently. It's quite good but not sure it really deserved to be number one over here - saying that, the quality in the charts has been pretty poor over the past month or so.

Heh...I only just found out it isn't Basshunter singing this version of the song. It's Sebastian Westwood.
And what's more: the English remake wasn't even done by Basshunter in the first place, but by DJ Mental Theo & Johan de Leeuw (aka Mental Theo's Bazzheadz). They already did so in 2006, but because of the huge success of the original their version got little attention.
The version got revamped in 2007, with the vocals of Sebastian Westwood, and with the blessing of Basshunter.
And now it's a UK #1...much thanks to the Dutch contribution. ::)

It's a reasonable dance song, but I must admit that it was getting overplayed during its reign at the number one spot. Now the new Welsh female singer Duffy is number one with her debut single 'Mercy.'

Yeah, that's the problem with chart music. It gets overplayed to the point where you don't want to hear it anymore. I'm going to take a listen to Duffy and see if it's alright.

On a sidenote: in the 1990s, Mental Theo (Theo Nabuurs) formed a very popular duo with Charly Lownoise (Ramon Roelofs). Together they had 8 Top 10 hits and another 4 Top 20 hits in 1995 - 1998 period. But I guess you knew that already.

You know that song uses a sample of "Help (Get Me Some Help)" by Tony Ronald..? ??? A song that was covered by Ottawan, btw. :o
