Subject: The end of UB40?

For many fans of UB40, it might just be ...
Ali Campbell decides to quit UB40 to focus on his solo career
It's always a gamble when bands continue on with new vocalists. It worked for Ultravox and Van Halen, but I don't know if it will work with UB40. I grew up listening to UB40 and they are still my all-time favourite band so this news is very sad to me. No one else can fill Ali's shoes

Good band, but they've just been treading water for the last 25 years!
I can't see Ali's 'career' lasting long...he's hardly a huge draw on his own!

He had a moderately successful solo album in 1995 that produced a very catchy number called 'That Look in Your Eye', but I don't see him taking his solo career to full lengths. Without UB40, he's just that voice that sang those UB40 songs lol

It didn't really work for Ultravox or Van Halen. I mean, those post-Midge Ultravox records didn't sell and Sammy Halen was just an embarrassment!
:-[
Anyway, you could have told me UB40 broke up 10 years ago and I wouldn't have blinked.

Embarassment or not (he was an embarrasment though yes lol), when Sammy joined Halen, they had their first #1 album on Billlboard and ended up with 3 back to back #1 albums
In their native UK, Foxx Vox had no hits but Ure Vox had over a dozen
