The academy is afraid that not many people will watch the OScars this year because most of the films nominated were flops at the box-office
In my ongoing support for Canadians, I hope Ellen Page of 'Juno' wins in her category :)

I think people were more impressed at the way the Golden Globes were handled this year...
Half-hour and it was all over!
Oscar ceremonies seem to last several days! :P

Well, I was rooting for her as well, and if not her then for Julie Christie for her role in the excellent English-Canadian film Away from Her, but no dice.
Canadians have so far also been shut out of the Animated Short category, in which there were two Canadian film nominations (Madame Tutli Putli and I met the Walrus). And Canadian Sarah Polley did not get the award for best adapted screenplay for Away from Her.
We'll see what gets best picture.

Did anyone else recognise Ellen Page from Trailer Park Boys? I didn't at first, but then someone said both their names in the same sentence and I instantly remembered... She played Jim Lahey's daughter, Trina.

I'll never forget...
Ricky: Oh hey, Trina. Where's your dad?
Trina: He's having his 'alone time' with Randy.

It was waaaay too obvious that Dora the Explorer and Iggy Pop lookalike Javier Bardem ;D would "kill" the competition ;D for Best Supporting Actor, and Steve Vai lookalike ;D Daniel Day-Lewis would get Best Actor. There was just too much Oscar buzz surrounding these guys. It was almost, if Danny boy doesn't win, there most certainly will be blood.
But there were so many great films that came out in 2007 that Oscar ignored (At least Transformers got SOME kind of nomination). How could they overlook Daeg Faerch as young Michael Myers in Halloween? He would have been up for Best Supporting Actor, and his name is easier to pronounce than Javier Bardem.
But overall, it was a great show, even though I rarely if ever have seen the nominated movies from any year before the show. Is it just me or does the Academy only honor movies that I haven't seen yet? ::)

I noticed something about the Oscars ... When they did the 'In Memoriam' tribute, they did not mention Brad Renfro. I know he wasn't really a big star, nor was he a household name, but neither were all those cinematographers and behind the scenes people they mentioned :(

As in the BAFTAs, the 'In Memoriam' tribute is a pre-recorded video, can it be that there is a cut off in the production of it?

Not likely. They mentioned Heath Ledger, and he passed away after Renfro did
