Subject: Paula Abdul's new song - "Dance Like there's No Tomorrow".
Written By: Marty McFly on 01/18/08 at 9:44 pm
It just premiered today on Ryan Seacrest's radio show. Here's a link to an interview she and Randy Jackson did with him, talking about her career and stuff, as well as taking calls (the song got great reviews from what I've heard). They're pretty much goofing around and telling stories about various things.

The actual song is just a clip there, but the audio part is on YouTube:

Personally I love the song. :) It's an upbeat club-type number, kinda like a five-star version of something Rihanna might do with more of an old-school flavor, like that electronic sound...just in a way that fits in with today too. Her voice sounds great and I hope it ends up being a sizable hit, even if not as huge as her 1989-1992 stuff (although I hope it's successful as possible of course).

Catchy little number, but she's had her time. I can see it maybe being a club hit or something, but in the Top 40? Highly unlikely

It's great! Paula sounds just like she did years ago...as if she has not aged at all. I'm excited to hear more stuff from her in the near future! :)

I love it. We needed something from her. The best singer in the world? No way... A great entertainer and overall good person? Yes. I'm in her corner :)

According to wikipedia, 'Dance Like There's No Tomorrow' is at #105 in the US chart
In Canada, it's new in the chart at #68, billed as by Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. The more I listen to it, the more I like the song :)

Yeah Randy produced it, it's on his Timbaland like compilation album that will be released sometime this year.

Kinda makes you wonder if she hadn't been a judge on American Idol, would this song have even charted?

Probably not, American Idol brought her back to fame.

Hmm, hard to say. She was planning a comeback in the late '90s (I kinda remember that from certain articles I read at the time) and I believe she has some unreleased songs from then, which were supposed to be a follow up album.
But yeah I think if that song came out in, say 1999 it wouldn't have been AS popular. Idol definitely repopularized her, and in alot of ways probably gave her alot of critical respect in terms of mainstream America. Like to people who wouldn't have listened to her music beforehand.

This is true
I also wonder though if she didn't still look the way she does (say hypothetically what if age wasn't kind to her: floppy hips, sagging face, slight hairloss), would the song still have charted? :D

I heard the song when she performed it during the Pre-Super Bowl show. It sounded like vintage Paula and I'm glad that her career is experiencing a bit of a resurgence! :)
