Probably rock (not by Nickelback), they play plenty enough hip-hop/dance on top 40 radio.

Not to threadjack, but as an electronica fan -- I've heard many a great electronic track ruined by someone trying to sing over it. I don't care how beautiful the singing is (I'm the first to admit that in electronic music, it typically isn't beautiful unless it was sampled from someone who could sing), I often finding myself saying "great track - wish the singer'd shaddap so I could listen to the music!" When it comes to electronica, my preferred "singing" probably winds up degenerating to "muttered in monotone, and crammed through a vocoder so it sounds like a Cylon out of the 1970s original version of Battlestar Galactica, and if the lyrics involve love or sex, that sex had better involve at least one machine too! Better yet, skip the love and sex and just sing something about robots!"
I can appreciate great vocal talent -- but it's sorta like going to the art gallery; I can admire anything from the Mona Lisa to Jackson Pollack (OK, Van Gogh's typically about as far as I want to go), but I can't see prints of any of 'em hanging in my living room.
Up to now, I've assumed that the converse is true, but I've never been able to ask a listener of adult contemporary if my assumption is correct... so you'll do :) Do you sometimes find yourself griping about tracks where a great singer's voice is being stomped upon by the obnoxious band?
This'll probably degenerate into a "do you listen to the beat or the melody" question -- but that's probably a false dichotomy. Maybe the real dichotomy is between people who'd prefer either the a capella or the instrumental" mixes.
