Did anyone see this on the way?

I like what her mom says, 'She's not missed a curfew and she's very conscientious'...

As they say in her neck of the woods(install accent here): SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE! And Gawlllly!

Have fun chating this one up board people! :P :P :P

OH MY GOD! A PREGNANT SIXTEEN YEAR OLD! Send out the lynching party, some dumb bitch got knocked up!

I swear, you act like it's never happened before. ::)

Hey, you know what though? I respect her decision to keep it and raise it. Hopefully she'll raise it better than her dipschitt sister raises her kids.

OMG Thousands of So. Africans are having 5+kids who they can't take care of hoping 1 will survive to keep the family going!

Just what we need more young people having young people...

But you're right-hope she can care better for it...but where is she gonna get the 'know it allness' to raise a kid when she's just a singer trying to figure out what her life ahead is gonna be like....

I think this may have been addressed in the past in 'Kids-having-kids'....

Maybe KFED has an extra hand...

What the F*** do South Africans have to do with this?

She also has (had?) a fairly successful show on Nickelodeon, so she's not just into singing. I assume she'll get her "know it allness" the same way the rest of us parents do: through family advice, maybe a book, and just jumping in and doing it.

Would you condemn her if she got an abortion?

She's 16, not a baby anymore. Many women have had kids at 16 or 17 and have manged to raise them perfectly fine. Probably better than a lot of parents over 20.

Maybe it's because 16 is "The Age" here, so 16 year olds having kids is a non issue, unlike if she was, say, 13.

Well, not that it's a good example, but I knew a girl who got pregnant at 14. She finished school while raising her kid and is now a successful real estate agent in California. Not that I condone getting pregnant THAT young, but yanno....

You don't live in South Africa, so how does their decision to have eleventy million children affect YOU?

I would say that, yes, the parents were part of the problem. Britney and Jamie Lynn's mother is what I refer to as a "limelight whore", who sold her children for money and fame. However, I think Britney is just out and out stupid. I'm pretty sure Jamie Lynn is smarter than her. Hell, my three year old is smarter than Britney. My DOG is smarter than Britney.

The girl who cuts my hair got preggers when she was 14.  She and the hubby are going strong 20 years later.  In fact shet had another daughter last month.

Now on to another subject.  Why the snide remark about people who live in  TRAILERS?  >:( There are plenty of decennt people who live in trailers/mobile homes.  Just because you do not have alot of money does not mean that somehow you are "cheap" or a "hick".

Because, as we all know, trailers=trash. ::)

Quite frankly, I'd rather live in a double wide and have tons of space for less money, than live where we are now.

To expound on the brazil reference, which reverts to why would eleventy million babies in S. Africa matter to me:

So when we are asked to donate to plant 'A single' tree in Brazil, why do many people send in for it...because they feel it affects their future life...so when poverty stricken So. African girls have 'children', I feel it is adding to the poverty of the world, which millions are sending whatever they can to put an end to it.

So back to babies having babies here, it is irresponsible here or wherever....

But why did you pick South Africa right off the bat? Teenage pregnancy happens all over the globe, especially in the good ol' US of A. And I've seen teenage mothers HERE with three or four kids. Isn't that contributing to poverty?

You also never did answer my question about abortion. Would you condemn them for having abortions? How do you feel about sex ed. and giving teenagers the advice they need to practice safe sex, because, god knows, it's not like abstinence works. ::)

I found out about this on the news this morning....how totally crazy (for lack of a better word). I find it kind of a shocker...IMHO she's too young to go through with this. ::) When I was her age I could never even dream of being a parent that young.

My great-grandma was 16 years old when she gave birth to her first child (my maternal grandma), but that was way back in the early 1920's. Moreover, my great-grandmother had gotten married at age 15, thanks to a "planned" wedding.

They actually started an alternate school attached to my high school for the mothers. That way they could learn and be with their babies at the same time (there were other workers there to take care of any babies/children that were getting too loud for classtime). They also got parenting classes, I think.

Since So. Africa had been in the news or publicized as long as I remember, along with their war reporting.

Why would Brazil come up when thinking of rain forests when there are many...insert whatever country, for either case.

I'm not a right to lifer or I'd be a hypocrite for not standing outside a cemetery with a sign.

When and why is the abortion? Who will raise the kid if it comes to term..the Catholic church is always siding with right to life but none will like it if the child is left with them for 18 years.

In a recent study I just heard on the news seconds ago, 71% of boys who had sex ed before age 15 practiced safe sex, and  for girls 59%.

Have you read Mrs. Spears(the mom), was working on a book on parenting and just halted the project. I think it should be 3 pages long with these words one by one: I, GIVE, UP! :o

AN ADDED FACTOR HAS BEEN ADDED BUT TAKEN OFF THE TABLE:

She's 16(maybe was 15 when it took place), he's 19...In a lot of places that would be considered RAPE..

Louisianna allows you to be 16 tho and momma Spears said they are all in accord....besides, if Jaime doesn't like him after she has her kid, she could always divorce, it's just they don't have 'I was a butthead for doing this all' in the law books as an excuse.

No it wouldn't be cosidered as rape, it would be considered as 'unlawful sex with a minor' as it was consensual.

When dealing with sexual matters and minors, minors are considered not to have the intellectual capacity to consent.  That is why in cases like this the prosecution is statuatory, meaning whether she consented or not, because of her age, it is still against the law. All this changes in one day, on their birthday, but that is another issue.  If he was older, say 22 or over, I think he would be in line to statuatory charges, but since they are relatively close in age this will probably not happen.

Biologically speaking, a woman enters prime baby-making age at sixteen.  Culturally/psychologically is another matter.  If I were the god of human reproduction, I would make it easy for a woman to become pregnant at age 44 and very difficult at age 16; that is, I'd flip it around from the way it is.  In the old days humans did not live as long and cultures were not so complicated. For the survival of the species, it was necessary for humans to start reproducing in their teens.  Not so anymore.

About this particular case, I couldn't care less.

I agree :)
But there's also nothing wrong if it feels right when you're 16 and no one should be ashamed of that either,if you are in love and it's a responsible decision,it's up to you...of course most parents freak out that's what they do,they will always think of their son or daughter as a baby, doesn't matter if they're 16 or 25.
When we grow up,we seem to forget how teenage years are like,we put every kid in the same bag...16 is not 10 ::) at 16 you can be declared an adult, you can drive a car,you can drink and so on. And the hormones by that age are ragging,it's hard to wait when all you think about is sex.

Of course "responsible" needs to include "financially capable of supporting a child" and "mentally prepared to be a good mother and father".

Jamie Lynn certainly has the wherewithall to support the baby, that's fo sho.

As to being mentally prepared, let's see where she and her baby-daddy are in a year or so.  Will they be closely parenting the child, or out partying every night while Nanny watches over the kid?  Only time will tell on that one.

Lyricboy, that means i shouldn't be having sex either? I'm 29 years old...financially uncapable of supporting a child and totally unprepared mentally to be a good mother. Born again virgin is my only option :\'(

There is the option of sex without procreation, unless of course you are Catholic, in which case you will burn in hell.

I'm assuming the male was similarly young? :P

They actually started an alternate school attached to my high school for the mothers. That way they could learn and be with their babies at the same time (there were other workers there to take care of any babies/children that were getting too loud for classtime). They also got parenting classes, I think.
They have an alternate school in my area too.it used to be on Willow street, but i guess they built houses there,so they gobbled up about a third of the playing field at Muir to build the alternate high school there! :P

Me either. There's nothing wrong with holding out for someone special or just until it feels right.

Totally agree. I'm super old-school and I never have either, which is absolutely fine with me. For the record, there were times I probably could have if I'd wanted to...but I was either too shy lol, or more importantly just didn't feel ready or right with those girls at the time. I want my first time to be with somebody special (:)) and not just for the sake of doing it.

Well, I've gotta disagree with the first paragraph. You don't NEED to have sex at any predetermined age. Sure, everyone is attracted to people, and you might think about sex to some extent from time to time (that's totally normal, I mean who doesn't?). But I think the most important thing about having a boyfriend/girlfriend is just being with the other person as friends, and sharing each other's company or common interests.

Just because sexual thoughts exist doesn't mean you have to act on them.

I do kinda agree with your second point, although that doesn't affect my opinion of the rest. There seems to be a tendency among some adults to deemphasize the "older traits" or the existing maturity of teenagers. To the point of, like you said...potentially lumping a 16 year old in as just a big, strong advanced 10 year old. Back then, I felt extremely insulted by that, especially since I was probably one of the more mature ones.

Sure, there were alot of 1991 things I missed by '97 (both experience and pop culture), but it's not like I wanted to actually BE that age again, lol.

As for the case - even though I definitely agree she made a mistake by getting pregnant (which I don't approve of), she should at least be given a chance and not scrutinized about it. As long as she can prove herself to be the best mother she can, given the situation. In all fairness, none of us are living her life, so we can't judge. From what I've heard, she does sound more mature than the mid '00s Britney! :D

I don't really care honestly, there's bigger problems in this world. This family has been clogging up the news way too much lately with all their crap. It's not out of the ordinary at all, kids are doing just about everything imaginable at 16 (not all of course but a lot are). This happens everyday, of course she's famous I know it's gonna be in the news, but still happens all the time. If kids are gonna do it, they're gonna do it, I don't believe at all that some kid would have sex simply because the girl on her favorite TV show got pregnant. You don't act on em and you'll burst, sorry Mcfly...just my opinion. These days, specially in America i see as much kids having sex as older people staying virgins til they're 40,it's kind of strange to me...i mean sexuality is a big part of your life, and sex itself is so natural..why make it such a big deal?

She's 16(maybe was 15 when it took place), he's 19...In a lot of places that would be considered RAPE..

Louisianna allows you to be 16 tho and momma Spears said they are all in accord....besides, if Jaime doesn't like him after she has her kid, she could always divorce, it's just they don't have 'I was a butthead for doing this all' in the law books as an excuse.

Weeeelll, a lot of Catholics figure the odds are so stacked in favor of burning in hell they might as well have a bit of fun before they get there!
:P

Of course "responsible" needs to include "financially capable of supporting a child" and "mentally prepared to be a good mother and father".

It's a matter of degree.  As the parents here say, you're never really prepared for it.  A lot of it is learning on the job.  Of course, there are people whose state of mental health is such that they can never become capable of good parenting.  Enough money is certainly important; however, I'd rather grow up in a poor family that is stable and loving than a rich family that is cold and neurotic.  Love is the indespensible ingredient.  I don't mean just emotional love, but the kind of love that comes from commitment, self-sacrifice, and consistency.

I know one thing.  If my parents waited until they were "ready," I wouldn't be here because they never would have been "ready."  They're now in their late 60s, and they're still not ready.
:D

Well, that's partially true I'll give you that. :) But I still never have watched porn and wouldn't want to, so I don't buy that just because you're not sexually active that you'll turn to that either.

P.S. It ought to be noted that, although there's clearly a difference between a MINOR (i.e. under 18) and a CHILD (i.e. under 12/13)...which alot of people unfairly lump together...both are below the legal adult age. This is why alot of people find it inappropriate, and I can agree with that.

Right, why is it such a big deal that everyone has to do it?  IMO, sex should be more of an afterthought in a relationship, and should be more about (as Marty said) keeping company and sharing common interests.  My parents were virgins until they got married (mom was 22, dad was 30), and they were so glad that they made that choice.

However, I do know what you mean about the people who are virgins and then watch porn 24/7, it's kind of hypocritical if you ask me.

Yeah, events tend to be hyped up when it involves a celebrity, whereas for a normal person, it would probably never even make the news. I'm not suggesting that what she did is good or advisable, it's not, but people are really raking her over the coals for it too.

I totally agree (like usual). :) Having that connection with someone you care about means everything, and I totally understand this from firsthand experience now. Sex is fine if you're committed and in love, but I hate when guys (and actually quite a few women too) have that as the main reason they're with someone.

You can experience...erm, "other things" by yourself, but you can't replicate a loving relationship and sharing things with someone you care about. I'm not saying other people don't have the right to watch porn (as much as I might personally disapprove), but I think it's sort of pervy and unnecesarry too. Also, it's only a step above actual cheating if you're in a relationship, imo.

P.S. Speaking of all this, I thought I'd share - there was this talk show episode that aired in probably 1995 or '96ish. I'm pretty sure it was Jenny Jones. I kinda forget alot of the details now, but there was this 27-year old guy on who said he was a virgin, mostly just because he was waiting for the right woman. He was a fairly good-looking guy too, so he probably didn't have trouble getting dates or anything. But when he said that, everyone applauded.

That always stuck with me (and hey, I'm only a year younger now than that dude was when they shot that episode!), just because I admired not only him, but the way the audience cheered him for it.

Yeah, I imagine it's not easy, even for the most well-prepared people. Just to think that their life lies in your hands, and you have to do everything to protect them and provide for them. There's total pressure because you have to know what to do in every situation as it comes along. I remember on a Full House episode, when one of the twins had a fever...Jesse and Becky were arguing about it, and she said, "I wish these kids came with instruction manuals!" ;D Even though I don't have kids (although I'd like to someday before too long), I can totally relate to that.

I really agree that love is a better foundation than money.

That's the problem though. It shouldn't be a big deal either way. That is what Isabel is getting at. There are some teenagers who will do it, some who won't. There are some people who will remain virgins for the rest of their lives, and other who will lose it young (like LyricBoy....and me...mine was gone when I was 14). It's a mistake yes, but has been pointed out FIFTY MILLION TIMES,  EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES. No one is saying that once you hit puberty, you should go out and get buckwild, and in the same vein, no one is saying you should be a virgin forever, unless you choose to.

The problem that I myself (and I'm sure others on here as well who have read this debacle) have is the judgments going on, here and other places. No one gives a f*ck if you approve of what she did or not. In a million years, Ms. Spears is not going to come on here and read this and say, "Oh my god, I made a huge mistake and all these people hate me now!" (and before any of you smartasses get any ideas about guest posting as her, just remember the mods know who you are :D)

I don't know why I care so much about this. Maybe because it irritates me that everyone is essentially picking on a young woman and her choices and mistakes, but not saying anything about Mr. Super Sperm and his part in it too. Maybe I see in her one of my former classmates having to deal with something that will brand her a "slut" and "easy piece" for the rest of her teenage years and beyond, no matter what she's really like.

Here's my opinion on the matter. Yes...Jamie made a mistake, perhaps did an action that she wasn't ready for the consequences that go along with it, however, life is completely FULL of making mistakes and reaping the consequences from it. God knows that I have made a TON of mistakes in my lifetime (some are known, and some are very personal..and are only really known by me and maybe a few others).  The fact of the matter is that a LOT of people are doing things that are risky...it's just that you only hear about the ones that get "caught", per se. It could have happened to the best of anyone who engages in particular activities. Life throws you a lot of obstacles, due to the choices that one makes in their lifetime. I'm sure that Jamie regrets a lot of things right now...but the fact is...you can't undo stuff like this, you can't turn back time and do it over, or do it differently. That being said, I feel that she is taking the right steps in being honest about her actions, and I hope that she continues to make the right choices for her baby.  She could literally make or break the life inside of her...and I really hope that she opts to do the responsible thing, and live for her child. :)

It's been brought up, and yes, crazy in the 'family type' of some families who have done such...Maybelle had 4 kids so hubby and I are having 6!!

Anything is possible...thanks to years of Jerry Springer exposing these types out there.

Did Britneys sister fall into that group? Not sure, but did Nicole Ritchie stand up Paris with doing jail time after being a close associate of hers?
There is a kernel there, just like one dying within a short time of another loved one, there was a connection we don't see..so what's to say there is no psychological connection here.
again checkout a Jerry Springer sibling rivalry episode...and some of those who change their physical makeup to look like someone prominent and change each time the star changes thier look.... :o :o

Probably because you CANNOT control people and how they live their lives, no matter how hard some dictators may try. We have our own free wills and thank the lord for that. Does it not occur to you that people NEED to make mistakes so they can learn from them and grow. That is what life is about and that is where experience comes from! Otherwise man would never have progressed and invented and developed into what he is today warts and all.

Don't get me wrong, of course everyone makes mistakes--I actually agree with most of what you said. :) I do think that it would be smarter/healthier of course for everyone to wait until they're married (or at least in a committed relationship).  But obviously that's not going to happen.  And I'm speaking about the guy as much as her.  I'm not branding her a slut at all (I know plenty of women who've had children out of wedlock).  I just don't see why people should have a problem with anyone abstaining from sex--which is what thereshegoes' post came off a bit as (forgive me if I'm just misinterpretting it though).

Well, not that it's a good example, but I knew a girl who got pregnant at 14. She finished school while raising her kid and is now a successful real estate agent in California. Not that I condone getting pregnant THAT young, but yanno....

:P My mom had her first kid when she was fifteen.

Almost the same age her first kid was when her second (me) was born.
