"It's amusing, but it's limited to a small community and unlikely to spread and unlikely to last," said Metcalf, an English professor at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill.

Prediction:  The word of 2008 will be "pwn3d".

Want One of Those
Waste of Our Time
Way Out of Topic (online forums)
We Owned the Other Team (gaming term; less common)
Wonderful Loot (Everquest gaming slang; also seen as W00T)
Workshop on Offensive Technologies (Usenix)
Wow, Loot! (archaic Dungeons & Dragons slang)

Which acronym?

w00t is ghastly geekspeak undeserving of scholarly recognition.

May it long remain ephemeral!

That is not standard English... it will never make it, but MySpace could be a standard verb in 2008.  To MySpace somebody is to send a person a message in MySpace.

It's more likely a word that is said by teenybopper than internet nerds that are stuck in like... 2005.  Get a life!!  It is probably going to be a huge catch phrase in 2009, when the Gen Z bunch takes over.

Yeah they can say Woot!(There It Is)" instead of the Generation Xers saying "Whoop! (There It Is)" which was a hit song by "Tag Team" in 1993.

I remember there used to be a guy who used to play for the New York Giants and his name was Tito Wooten.
