Subject: Newscaster hype or braggadocius law enforcement-Natalie Holloway
Written By: saver on 12/10/07 at 5:16 am
A few nights ago, the newscasters came on with a story that alerted everyone of the arrest of the 3 male(2brothers),alleged suspects in the Natalie Holloway disappearance in Aruba.
In a stern voice the reporter announced:"with the most recent phone tap evidence police have, if they had it the week when the trio was first taken in,ooo, they would be behind bars instead of being released!'
So they are brought in and GUESS WHAT??? Look who is FREE...ALL OF THEM!
Is this a case of BLOWHARD police saying 'ha-ha' we can finally solve this case!!!, Then they wimper away and let them all go with no word they can do anymore regarding this matter.
Or did the NEWS/MEDIA play it up with their
tone of : 'Aha, now the police have something on them, they brought them ALL in again and now we can sleep safe knowing...uh,....all are free now, there wasn't enough to hold them on!'
CAN SOMEONE SAY,'BOY ARE OUR FACES RED!'?
I just felt the story shouldn't have made a big deal with the wording, but they apparently quoted the police upon rearresting the guys...

The word you're attempting is not "braggadocius" but "braggadocious," even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious! The jury is still out on whether or not "braggadocious" is a word.
Braggadocio (noun) is certainly a word of Italian origin meaning braggart, or a boastful manner.
Braggadocio, braggadocious: Thumbs down to the former because it violates George Orwell's cardinal rule from "Politics and the English Language." Don't use a big word when a small word will do. In this case, braggart or boaster. Thumbs down to the latter because it's a ham-fisted attempt to make an adjective out of the former. Again, conceited and boastful are perfectly good. Thumbs down to both because either will throw off the rhythm of any sentence.

Speaking of goofy spelling: Natalee Holloway. Young women disappear in Latin America every day and the news media could care less. Let it happen to Miss American Pie and the media works overtime to keep the story of a dead girl alive for three years. Oh rich white suburban hotties, the planet is not your playpen. Stay sober, keep your wits about you, don't trust men, and don't ride with strangers. It sucks, I agree, but some vigilence and self-restraint is worth it if it means you'll get to celebrate your 21st birthday, wouldn't you say?
