Subject: The Philadelphia fireworks debacle!
Written By: loki 13 on 07/05/07 at 7:30 pm
Every 4th of July Philadelphia puts on a concert on the steps of the Art Museum, the same steps Rocky ran up,
followed by a fireworks display. Last night's concert was Patti LaBelle and Hall And Oates, this show was also televised.
During the concert it was raining heavy so a city official announced the fireworks were going to be cancelled. After
Hall And Oates left the stage the police started clearing the Parkway. Even in the rain a few thousand people were on
hand; thing is, as they were in their cars heading home, the fireworks display went off in it's full glory. The City went
ahead with the fireworks.
Today the City officials said the fireworks were never officially cancelled and they cleared the Parkway for safety reasons,
there was a lightning storm in the area, yeah right. The only reason they went ahead with the show was because of
the TV obligation.
It was the fireworks display that few people saw. ;D

I read about that this evening...sounds like a lot of unhappy people, one woman stood(or sat) there for 11 hours to see the fireworks and went home before they started due to the announcement....

They should re-schedule another fireworks display. It wouldn't really be the same, but they atleast owe it to the people who waited to see the display

I had a similar gripe about the Boston fireworks. The fireworks are now scheduled by the networks so that they can be broadcast, the safety, comfort and entertainment of the people doesn't have anything to do with it. In Boston it is now on national television so instead of the seamless stream of entertainment and fun they now have to stop for station breaks and mindless prattle.
