Only thing I can think of.
Seems because the tenant was evicted, they thought they would get even....

Craigslist is a scammer's dream come true...

This particular case, a cop noticed something?  And the neighbors noticed something..?

  And nobody did anything..?

  Interesting...

Long time ago I had bad thoughts about getting even with a landlady I reeeeally despised.  But that was more of a Dostoyevsky thing...the thought only crossed my mind, I wouldn't....let's not go there, actualy.

it's horrible. But think--if you take belongings from someone and call it "spring cleaning',you're no better than this person was!

Back when I was in college, one of the local apartment complexes went bankrupt, and the student tenants were getting stiffed for their security deposits.

Understandably miffed, the tenants took matters into their own hands and stripped the place of any decent appliances and furniture to get their payback.

I saw it on the news last night. I can't believe people actually thought it was true. They even took the kitchen sink!

I was the one afraid of fire!  That creepy old broad kept buring stuff down the back of the property.  Not just leaves and brush either.  I'd see this vile, slow rising, tarry black smoke.  I was afraid to find out.  I later discovered by sleuth she had been married twice.  Both her husbands had died in suspicious fires!

Oh, she was a few bricks short of a load.  There are reasons why you have to get a burning permit, and one of them is there's lots of stuff you're not supposed to burn in the open air, such as varnished furniture and plastics, both of which I know she was incinerating down there.  One time, another tenant called the fire dept.  I watched the firefighters walk down to where she was burning stuff, she said something to them, they walked away chuckling and she just carried on as she was.  I don't know what the deal was there.  That tenant moved out in a huff.  I decided not to pursue it with the town.  If I forced their hand, she'd get a big fine, she would have raised my rent to pay it, and then found a reason to cancel my lease.  Anyway, the smoke didn't bother me because it was too far from the house, and I thought of the amusing possibilities if her incendiary activities got out of control!

BTW, one of the ex-husbands who died under suspicious circumstances in a fire was a firefighter himself!

true, there's a lot of stuff you're not supposed to burn, but there's a lot of stuff that doesn't belong in the ground water either.Part of the reason for the laws is so garbage companies are assured of some business from everyone--some people recycle and compost so much, they really don't have anything to throw away, except for biohazardous stuff! :P
