Well...in the 90's, we were at war with Iraq, a Bush was President, and Michael Jackson was being accused of molesting children.
Hey, wait...

Although I liked/replied to these threads long after most people got sick of them, even I have to say they've really run their course now.

Yeah, this topic has been done to death over the last year or so. But still, I don't think the '90s and '00s are all that similar.

Differences between the 1990s and the 2000s include:
Music
1990s - Take That with Robbie (who left in 1995 to go solo), Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys
TV
Friends, The Simpsons and Rugrats were popular 90s TV shows.
Fashion
Combat trousers, pedal pushers and 'skowsers' were definitely 'in.'
Films
Spiceworld, The Lion King and the 20th anniversary version of Grease.
2000s
Music
Big artists include James Blunt, James Morrison and Lily Allen
TV
Big Brother, Pop Idol, X Factor, Desparate Housewives and American Idol are noughties small screen faves.
Fashion
Ponchos, cropped cardigans, skinny jeans and leggings worn with pumps and drsses.
Films
Casino Royale, Finding Nemo and The Queen are some of the biggest films of the 2000s.

Pop culture, haven't changed much since around 1999 with very little change
Though the early/mid 1990's are far better when it comes to tv and music 8)

I'll just very quickly say, the musical genres of the '90s and '00s are similar, but most of the actual music and artists are not. TV has changed the most, with reality shows and hourlong specials, instead of talk shows and sitcoms dominating. Tech has gotten alot more portable and smaller, although alot of it is just modifications of late '90s stuff. Politics has changed the most too. Even though terrorism was in the news back then, it wasn't all over, and the '90s didn't have that "end of the World/Culture of Fear" feel to it.
P.S. Let's just say the old-school '90s stop at 1996. 1997-2001 or '02 is the Y2K era, and everything since is like "2003 lite" and leave it at that. ;)

Let's not leave it at that. "2003 lite" ? What does that mean? ???
The differences between the 00's and the 90's are going to be a matter of opinion, although some thoughts will be similar among people.

Pop culture, haven't changed much since around 1999 with very little change
Yeah but rap music was nowhere as popular as 1999-2001 as it was from 2003-early 2006. Rap in 2003 sounded different than rap in 1997 even though it had the same attititude lyrically. I will say myself I noticed very little change from 1999-mid 2005 but the last year and a half since mid 2005 I do thnik there is a big difference between the late 90's to now(2007.). I mean you wouldn;t have heard a song like "Sexy Back' or "Promusciuis" in 1999.
Also groups like Limp Bizkit or Creed are laughed at now even though they were popular in 1999. Also boybands from the 2002-prensent don;t really exist(in the US) so theres another difference from 1999 for you. Ah, I will modify my post on the boyband thing since R&B boy band B2k was popular in 2004 with the #1 hit "Bump, Bump, Bump" but B2k didn;t have the album sales and the amount of popularity that BSB and N'Sync hadfrom 1997-2001. Also latin pop like Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, and Mark Anthony you don;t hear any of that in todays music like a song "Livin Lavida Loca".
To me 1999-2001(pre September 11th maybe?) go together with 2002 being the "in between year" with 2003 starting with the 2000's(early to mid portion of) pop culturally with the arrival of rapper 50 Cent. I don't know what year what divide the late 2000's(2007) between the mid way point of the 2000's sort of like 1997 divided the line between the mid and late portions respectively of the 90's with the arrival of the Backstreet Boys, and the Spice Girls because in 2007 Glam Rap is still active with a glam rapper like "Mims" and grunge in 1997 wasn't active anymore.
Maybe March of 2006 would start the mid to late 2000's since rap isn;t as popular as it say in Feb 2006 because Dem Franchise Boyz and snap rap in general were pretty popular at that time in Feb 2006 I think.

2003-2007 is pretty similar to me, but the early '00s were somewhat different. A few things have changed since 2003 however: Emo rock achieves real pop success, crunk evolves into snap, increasing southern dominance of hip-hop to the point where it's all southern or southern sounding, rise of hip-hop influenced dance-pop, hip-hop/rap album sales decline but it still rules the singles world. Some people around here think rap will go away, it'll never happen, just like rock is here to stay so is rap.

I agree with you. Even though I used to think that 1999 was pretty similar to now, when you think about quite a bit has changed since then.

Yeah, on the surface 1999 seems like yesterday in some ways, but when you dig deeper, quite a bit has changed. Mostly in terms of tech and individual artists that are popular.

Yeah, I'm sure crunk and glam rap will die someday, but the genre of rap is way too big to go away. Snap is very now too - when people look back on 2006 and 2007 in the future, the phrase "Oh Snap" will be like a time capsule, lol.

I think of the snap rap trend as a late 2005/mid 2006 trend. In 2007 Snap Rap is around? I don;t know about that. Rap with a synthy influence is big now like Mim's. I agree rap won't die its how old now? like 27 years old? No its not going to die.

Is that song "This is Why I'm Hot" considered snap rap?

I think it kinda sounds snap, it's at least influenced by the sound. Unk is snap too and popular. So is the guy called "Huey" that I've heard about. T-Pain has a new song featuring Yung Joc as well called "Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin')", which as you can probably guess is horrible.

UNK has a "crunk" sound I think but not snap in my own opinion. I haven;t heard about Huey or T-Pain's song with Young Joc but I ;m with you its probably horrible.

No, I don;t consider "This Is Why I Am Hot" to be snap rap. Of course I don;t listen to the whole song because I think its garbage but when I first hear the song on the radio when its first introduced to me it has a synth sound to it.
