Subject: An actual reason to watch The Grammys.

Written By: JamieMcBain on 01/31/07 at 9:52 am

It looks like The Police might be reforming, to peforming for the opening of the Grammy this year.

I would have to say, it this really is the case... it's the best news of this whole week, so far.

I am so excited, I can't wait.  I hope this means they are gonna tour, because I'll start saving money NOW for that.

I doubt they will, unless Sting can check his ego and they decide to record together again.  I'm sure it's just a publicity stunt because Sting has another boring mellow record coming out in a few months. His first two solo albums were ok, but after that... ugh.

The Police already had an informal reunion at a wedding of someone the band knows.  Forgot where I read that, but they all got up on stage and played a few numbers.

People say the Grammys are out of touch today, well here's a newsflash, they always have been.

I have a hard time naming an awards show that isn't overly long, filled with performances by people I couldn't care less about, have smaller awards that aren't worth broadcasting, and generally give awards to stuff that isn't worthy of a nomination, least of all a win.

I know they performed together when they were inducted in the RRHOF, but everyone said that was a one-shot thing and they wouldn't get back on stage together again.  They're opening the Grammys....that's a bigger deal than someone's wedding.  Methinks they might tour because prior to reading this, I had heard rumors that they were going to.

I really really really REALLY hope Sting realizes he's 1/3 of the band and they go back on the road.  I love The Police.

true, it's bigger than a wedding, but it seems less genuine doesn't it?

while I love the Police, I think I want to keep low expectations so I won't be disappointed.  I'm just a killjoy I guess. >grin<

Killjoy.  :P

I see what you're saying and I think you're right.....low expectations here would be good.  I just hope that them opening the Grammys means more than them just opening the Grammys.

ooh... they're opening.  well, I can watch that and easily ignore the rest of the show.  I guess I'll watch it anyways >grin<.

nah, I'll probably still wait for someone to stick it online so I can avoid inflating the egos of the Grammy folks.

The only reason to watch the grammy's is to see which hot celeb in some super revealing dress will have a wardrobe malfunction ;D

Maybe if you have no interest in music, in that case why bother watching a show devoted to......music.

Yeah, I think I remember their brief reunion in the '90s being covered on VH1's episode of Behind the Music they did on the band a few years ago.

I believe someone mentioned there, too, that The Police are one of the few disbanded groups that, if they were to get back together, could really pick up where they left off, musically speaking. I actually agree with that. They've got a unique, timeless sound. Sure, they had some '80s touches but didn't really "sound Eighties", if you know what I mean.

Sting's a great musician, but yeah, I agree he's got a pretty big ego, so I wouldn't really expect them to do another CD (although I'd love if they did). :) When they tried to get back together in 1986 to do some new songs for their Greatest Hits, they couldn't even get along and only scraped out a then-new (and inferior) version of "Don't Stand So Close To Me".

P.S. I agree with you about his solo career. The last song he did that I liked was "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You.

"Brand New Day"  and "Desert Rose" were good songs back in 1999 or 2000 though. Remember when Sting did the commercial for the car brand "Jaguar" back then? He hasn;t done anything since 1999-2000 though.

As for the Police re-uniting thats the only reason to watch the grammy's. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers performance would be another reason to watch maybe. I just don;t care for the Grammy's though.
