Subject: 2006 year-end Billboard Hot 100 is out
Written By: Brian06 on 12/16/06 at 4:58 am
Way different than 2004 and 2005 imo. As big as rap still is in the US, looking at the year-end top 50 for the year 2006, there is a certain noticeable decline happening. It's a significantly more pop/rock year end chart than 2003-2005. "Bad Day" is the number 1 song for the year 2006.

Top 10 for 2006:
Bad Day - Daniel Powter
Temperature - Sean Paul
Promiscuous - Nelly Furtado
You're Beautiful - James Blunt
Hips Don't Lie - Shakira
Unwritten - Natasha Bedingfield
Crazy - Gnarls Barkley
Ridin - Chamillionaire
SexyBack - Justin Timberlake
Check On It - Beyonce

Those are pretty good songs for the most part. ;) I like "Bad Day" and "Unwritten" the best (altho I like the latter more).

I liked the 2004 and 2005 charts way better. Maybe because I'm more of a hip-hop fan.

There's quite a few good songs on the list, but you can defidently notice that hip-hop's popularity is declining.

Agreed. O0 I'm sick of (c)rap music dominating the charts. ::)

Not all rap is crap, but I do like more diversity on the charts because I like all different kinds of music.

I like rap too, but this year's rap has been garbage. They mostly have a dry and boring beat and melody, such as "Ridin'" by Camillionaire. But if you ask me, I think this year's music was garbage across all genres. I made a mixed CD of my 15 favorite songs of the year, but I don't even think those songs are that great.

2 Canadians in the Top 3. That's not bad, not bad at all 8)
I am surprised Jibbs is not in the Top 50. Maybe the people who bought "Chain Hang Low" realized it was horrible piss of music and got their money back ;D

Agreed...there is some rap that I don't mind, especially older stuff (from the 80s and early-to-mid 90's). I dislike most rap that came out within the past ten years, except for Will Smith (I don't mind listening to him; in fact, I like the "MIB" song).
I do like more diversity on the charts because I like all different kinds of music.
Me too. However I don't like to see too much of the same thing.

A great top 10 for the year.
I think ClearChannel played only these 10 songs on their Top 40 stations...well, except for Jibbs and Young Sneezy or whatever his name is.
