Subject: 'Art Gallery' Music
Written By: Trimac20 on 07/04/06 at 4:21 am
I've invented a new adjective - 'Art Gallery' Music, to describe a certain time of easy-listening, largely instrumental - 'twee pop' if you like, sort of music. Sort of like Cocktail music, like contempary Jazz/fusion, but with extensive use of instruments like xylophones, steel drums/tankai, old style 1930s 'Art decor' sort of stuff, etc. A few groups which would sort of fit into that category would be New Buffalo, Architecture in Helsinki (both Australian groups, I don't know if any of you know them), the Dave Mann Collective, Pink Martini, alot of contemparary jazz...in other words, music you'd often find in an Art Gallery/Gallery/arty farty cafe/bookstore.
