Subject: 2005
Written By: batfan2005 on 06/10/06 at 3:48 pm
2005 was an exciting year of the 00's and of my life. When I look back on last year, I remember all the fun times I had. 2005 also had a lot of good summer movies, like Batman Begins, Star Wars-Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Four, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Dukes of Hazzard, and War of the Worlds. The movies of 2006 haven't been as good so far, and Superman Returns is really the only other movie I'm looking forward to seeing. The major events I remember of 2005 include Hurricane Katrina, the London subway bombings, Pope Benedict getting elected, the Michael Jackson verdict, and the Terri Shiavo case.
How would you describe 2005 in your own words?

2005 was a big year for me too. I graduated from high school, went to my first college classes.. There were alot of good movies I agree.
Katrina defined the year more than anything, as well as the aftermath of the tsunami from the end of 2004. The political climate began to shift too, from the post-9/11 McCarthyism we'd been enduring. I think the first half of the 00s will be looked back on alot like the early 50s, politically.

2005 was the best year of the 00's for me personally. I went from having a horrible life in 2002/2003 (I've blocked a lot of memories from that time, so I won't elaborate) to having the best times of my life in the second half of 2004, as well as 2005, thanks to getting a fresh start at a new school. 2006 is pretty good so far, about an 8/10 for my personal life. I graduate high school in 2007, so I hope that's going to be an amazing year.

I thought 2005 was o.k. year. I graduated from high school in May so that pretty much made the year for me.

2005 was alright. 2004 was a 366 day nightmare. But my favorite '00s year would probably be 2003. 2006 has had its good moments and bad moments like when my school closed in March. Sorry, I forgot this was about 2005.

Yeah, pop culturally 2002 was the pits.
Not much more than 2003...In terms of mainstream culture, the period 1999 til today was pretty much 'the pits.'

Yeah, pop culturally 2002 was the pits.
Not just that, the social climate in general. It was f*cking depressing as a year.

2003 wasn't as depressing, not in America at least. There was just something very dreary and oppressive-feeling about 2002.

Post 9/11 blues I guess...
And the entire year was consumed by a build-up to the Iraq war, starting with the State of the Union when Bush used the term "axis of evil" for the first time.
If you were opposed to invading Iraq it was depressing to see us slipping toward war, and the media almost totally ignoring the minority who opposed it(about 25% I think). It felt like McCarthyism all over again.

I think late 2004 and early 2005 were great. 2005 got worse and worse though.
