Subject: Origins of Musical Forms' Popularity (1990-2006)
Written By: velvetoneo on 06/04/06 at 12:46 am
Grunge-Managed to fill the void created by hair metal, producing another form of rebellious rock, while tapping into the loneliness and frustration of a generation disenchanted by the super-corporate '80s.
'90s Indie Rock-Filled the space of smart person's music left by the death knell of college rock, combined with grunge influence and backlashing against the perceived corporateness of grunge.
Nu Metal-Filled the void grunge left, for disenchanted, macho, vaguely violent teenage boyism.
Emo/Hipster Rock-Tapped into the narcissistic loneliness, posturing, desire for high school classicism of the John Hughes 1980s, and futurism of the 9/11 generation.
Glam Rap-Escapist music, to a world where money (all that oughties people care about and makes sense to them anymore) is all that matters.
