i always thought it was a little strange that teenagers in the 80's went from listening to stuff like madonna and hair bands to listening to stuff like nirvana when they were in theyre 20's in the 90's and do yall think gen y will change that much in terms of taste music and fashion and stuff like that

There was not much crossover from Madonna listeners to Nirvana listeners. You'll always have people who will just buy whatever is popular and aren't discerning. However, among discerning music fans, Nirvana's fanbase came from fans of hard rock, punk, and metal. Madonna fans got into other pop singers and dance music.
