Subject: The late 00's is like the early 90's
Written By: batfan2005 on 04/14/06 at 11:30 pm
The later half of the 00's reminds me of the early 90's, while the early half (2000-2004) was more like the mid to late 80's (1984-1988). Here is my reason why: the early half of the 00's was a time of optimism, the pop-culture was brighter, and the economy was stronger, just like it was in '84-'88. 2005 was the inaugural year for Bush's 2nd term, and 1989 was the inaugural year for Bush Sr.'s only term, and both of those years were the last decent years before things got bad. Now in 2006, things seem to be turning upside-down like it did in 1990. The economy is weakening, crime and violence will likely rise in the U.S., and people are more pessimistic about the future. Also, the pop-culture has been on a decline. Does it seem like the past is repeating itself.

It is kind of. I hope this doesn't mean the early tens are to be like the late nineties though ;D

Well of course late 90s is like early 00s. 1996-2005 is only a 10 year period.
Now if you are talking, say, late 60s vs. early 00s, then we might see something.

It's not really the late '00s yet, it's more like the 2nd half of the '00s with the real late '00s beginning around 2007.

I agree. Late '00s begins with the fall of this year.

I can sort of see it, but I'm not getting the sense of "change" towards anything new with the underground culture rising up that was there c. 1989-1990. The mainstream culture will probably weaken for a few more years before something new rises up between 2009 and 2011 before the "real 2010s" starts.

ok lol bumping this thread as of now its 2011
i think there is similarity pattern with the late 80s early 90s with today and the late 00s i guess but i dont know...its different in a lot of ways too in terms of technology of course and the vibe of the culture is slightly different...
but in terms of the vibe.. how late 80s there were recessions as well as the early 90s... yes its similar in that case
i love late 90s and early 00s!!! its the best time in the world for me!!! you can enjoy almost anything back then

I think "Bruno Mars" might be to the early 10's version of "Maxi Priest" in the early 90's.
