Subject: Is crime on the rise?

Lately in the news, it seems like there are more killings so far this year than this same time in 2005 or 2004, at least in Atlanta and San Diego. I was wondering could the crime rate which was dropping since the mid 90's be turning around rising this year? How is it where you live?

No. Not really. More killings/other crimes are being reported.

No this is a misconception, I think there's less crime nowadays.

It's actually lower than it was 10 years ago by FAR in Jersey/NYC when it was still pretty sleazy around Times Square, but I see this turning around soon.

Locally I seem to notice there is has been a spate of violent crime reported on the news, etc. But I don't know if it has anything to do with hard stats.
