American Idiot is definitely one of them.

Yeah, "American Idoit" and "Get rich or die tryin'" will probably be seen as the definative albums of the 2000's.

I don't think people are gonna agree with this one but as far as really cool Christian rock(yes, there's a such thing ;) )P.O.D.'s 'Satellite'...I think that's the album that made the band somewhat popular, and it's IMO a pretty decent CD...one of my favorite P.O.D. songs, 'Boom' is on it.

Definitely the Strokes debut album 'This Is It' released in 2001. It spawned about a million imitators even to this day, whereas the influence of other massive albums like Creed's 'Human Clay', Matchbox 20, Maroon Five and other radio friendly 'alternative rock' were more short lived.

Maroon 5 is probably more influential than the other two you mentioned, in terms of spawning contemporary A/C rock almost totally. I agree "This Is It" created the whole new indie rock scene, basically.

Also, Kanye West's Late Registration is pretty influential.

Far from spawning A/C, Maroon 5 just brought to the teen market. You could argue Alanis Morisette did that about 7 years earlier, but then again, I'd argue they were quite different.

I really think the 90s were the decade of A/C...but I have a feeling the average listening back then was much older.

Based on the US demographic market in terms of birth patterns, the peak teen listening years were the '60s/'70s and the late '90s/'00s.

I agree that Maroon 5 just brought A/C to the teen market.
