Exclusively of 2006? hmmm, James Blunt?
By the way, I second the request of batfan joining (if he wants to) and Trimac, I love you for continuing the legacy of Donnie Darko ;D 8)

-Indie-yuppie music (Iron and Wine, Arcade Fire, etc.)
-Text messaging (weird '06 fad, will probably die down).
-Myspace gained/retained popularity.
-The "materialistic" bohemian look.
-Those sweater hoodies with the knit patterns.
-Flimsy and sweeping downwards collars.
-Kanye West.
-A/C music like James Blunt.
-The clogs that batfan mentioned, and crocs.
-Moccasins.

Yeah, James Blunt. He's really big this year. Is that his debut? Btw, I am thinking about registering since I have been coming on here a lot lately. I'll probably do that later this week.

Most of those things were probably as just popular in 04 or 05 (though text messaging has peaked so far)...Kanye West also seems to have reached his peak. I actually have a feeling A/C is dying down, and is more of a 05' thing. It's sort of giving way to grittier, post-punk music like the Arctic Monkeys and 'mainstream alternative.' Apart from that you're probably more the expert in fashion, as I don't usually take notice of the trends.

What started the texting trend? I think it's peaking now, but texting is sort of stupid for alot of things, so I think it's a Livejournal-like fad that will die down. I think A/C is only starting up, actually...

Most of the current fad's and trends' are things carried over from late 2005. I really can't think of anything that's exclusivley 2006 right now.

Which goes into my theory that a pop culture year = a school year. Thus late 2005 and early 2006 comprise a pop culture year.

What about those digital message belt buckles (which came out last year)? They sell them at kiosks at the malls, and maybe Spencers. Do you know anyone who has one of those?

Yeah, the new year begins in September.

Of course that would be the case, since America's pop culture is the World's pop culture.

I'm talking from an American perspective. Sometimes I forget that this is a international place.

That's ok, I'm used to being a minority on most every message board I'm on.

Adult contemporary. Basically pop for adults.

A/C is a term often used incorrectly. But I won't go into that.
