Too hard to decide.
Mervin Peakes' 'Titus Groan' or the 'Gormenghast Triology' has to qualify;
'Animal Farm' by George Orwell
'Alice in Wonderland' by Lewis Carroll
'No one gets out of here alive' the biography of Jim Morrison. I know it's non-fiction.

I've only ever read novels based on motion pictures. Apart from that, I've read 5 different paperback books on Shania Twain

Clockwork Orange
Catcher in the Rye
I also read Sideways, Choke by Chuck Palahniuk, Lolita, Fear and Loathing, etc, but Clockwork and Catcher in the rye are my favorites. I never really had time to read in high school, I barely sat still. Now i'll probably start reading more often since i've mellowed out.

My favourite book of all time is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Hunter S. Thompson's 1971 obituary of the counter-culture of the 60s. That book is a laugh riot! ;D
I also like Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. Those books are pretty funny, also.
And in terms of serious, dramatic books, I really like Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles.

I tend to lean to childhood favorites as my all time best reads. But, I will mention that in most recent memory, Frankenstein, was an absolute best book. I never, ever thought I'd enjoy reading it, but it was rather gripping.

I have been given a copy of The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger, which I enjoyed the first time of reading it, but looking forward to re-reading it.

Tough one. It would be The Stand by Stephen King with Lightning by Dean Koontz coming in a close second.

When I was younger I loved the Outsiders, and read it several times.
I quite like the Harry Potter series, myself, too..I started reading the first one several years ago, just to see if it would be 'appropriate' for my son, who was interested in it at the time--well, I made him wait until I'd finished it all before I'd let him read it! ;)
And I've read all the others first since then, too!
I really don't have time, generally..but for HP, I make time!! :D

Superfudge brings back memories. I remember my teacher reading it to us in 2nd grade.
I loved these books.
Tales Of A 4th Grade Nothing was the one before Superfudge..
Our teacher read it to us in 4th grade and after that you couldn't get your hands on it in the library because it was always checked out.
I bought a 4 volume Judy Blume "Fudge" series just last year, because I loved these books so much as a kid.
I had forgotten to mention these in my previous post. So I'll add it now. :)
Also by Judy Blume, memorable for me as a kid,
"Are You There God, It's Me Margaret" (what girl didn't read this one?)
"Starring Sally J. Friedman, as herself"
"Then Again, Maybe I won't"
"Forever"
"Blubber"

Yes, I also remember the "Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing". I think I also read that around 4th grade as well. I also remember Blubber and "Are you there God, It's Me Margaret"
Some wonderful reads. I ought to purchase a set myself. I have been trying to read "The Phantom Tollbooth" as that was a children's book I was never exposed to when younger, but a dentist friend of mine recommended it and said it's still a good read as an adult. So, I went and purchased it right away. And even gave some copies to family, lol.

Can you expand this question a little, it's too narrow!
:P
My favorite book of all time is probably one I have not read yet.
If I may take the liberty of rephrasing the question to make it answerable....
What book has meant the most to me over the longest period of time?
1984
by
George Orwell

1984-Definitely a classic
The Devil's Advocate- Taylor Caldwell....that one really makes you think
Anthem- Ayn Rand
The Martian Chronicles- Ray Bradbury
Welcome to the Monkey House- Kurt Vonnegut
Hehe Guess that's as far as I could narrow my list down to....there are precious few books that I've read and NOT liked

I read most of the "Fudge" series when I was younger. I also liked Blume's book "Freckle Juice"
