Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" reached only 2 in the UK Charts during th elast summer, well done Daniel. I found "Free Loop" very catchy.

The first time I heard this song, I thought it was Train. 


I like the song, and it's really catchy.  I was singing that song like, 2 hours after I heard it.

Yea I like the song as well. It was played quite a bit on AC radio last year, but didn't hit top 40 radio until this year. It's nice to see it top the charts.

It's a catchy little A/C tune that's exactly what the pop music scene needs right now. No real masterpiece surely, but it's about 100x better than that soporific piece of quiver "You're Beautiful."

There's definitely been some change here in 2006 with 2 AC oriented songs hitting no.1 and also a lot of different songs hitting that top spot.

Until I read this thread, I didn't even know Daniel was popular anywhere other than Canada.  I usually keep up on US and UK charts, but I haven't in about 2 months or so  :\'(

I agree that it popularized it, but, hey, whatever means necessary. It's really quite a good song. I thought it was a shame when it looked like it wasn't going to perform well here.

Has anyone noticed all the pop and pop singers with popularity in the past few years are vaguely American Idol-ish, like they sound like the style of things they like?

I know, I've seen it.  It's like one of  those late-night ads, which are cheesy in themselves  ;D

I heard "You're Beautiful" today in the diner, and the lyrics to that song are incredibly stupid. I mean, "I saw your face, in a crowded place, and I know I'll never see you again." There's a difference between sad and whiny, people! IMO, "emo" is whiny, while something like Tori Amos is sad. If that's a good distinction, anyway. It's whiny and irritating and I want to decapitate James Blunt. Meanwhile, "Bad Day" is a catchy, if ordinary, piece of pop that isn't stupid at all.

The question now remains is ... will other songs from him become hits in America?

He's already had two other popular hits here in his homeland with "Free Loop (One Night Stand)" and "Jimmy Gets High" :)

In the entire Billboard Top 10 I only recognized one artist, Mary J. Blige. It's watchamacall a "disconnect." I haven't heard of your music, you haven't heard of my music!

My parents bought his album recently, and play it every time we get in the car... I try to drown it out.

Every time he hits the chorus of every song, it sounds like someone kicks him in the genitals, and he gets all high-pitched.. it's really annoying.

I only got into it in the last 2 months or so, but it's probably my favorite pop song of early '06. Yeah, his voice has some Emo inflections to it, but it's more of a lite pop-rock/AC song - sort of an updated '90s adult alternative ballad.

It never charted in the UK, or it never reached 100. Which I find strange for it was constantly played on the radio and on the Video TV Channels. I would noticed this song well, for the chorus and closing moments of the song are based on Pachabel's Canon in D.
