Even though I quite enjoy the mid '00s, I do have a slight preference for the 2000-2002 period mainly because of the music. 2002 is probably one of my favorite '00s year musically, it was perfectly in between the late '90s period and the peak of the '00s.

I really can't seperate the two periods.

I know Dance, Nu'metal, Punk, rap/rock cross-over, rap, teen stars, post-grunge was popular in the early 00s...

while 'Emo, new progressive rock, more varied R'n'B hip hop (American rap really died out in the mid 00s)...

So for Top 40 stuff...I prefer the 00s. Bands like Taxiride, Counting Crows were a bit corny, but not nearly as bad as Maroon 5, Simple Plan.etc.

Well even though the mid 00's have been the peak of the decade thus far personally i'd have to go with the early 00's. I guess musically the early 00's are probably better to but I have always prefered the early 00's(specifically 2000 and at least half of 2001) over the current 2004-2006 peroid.

Yeah 2004 was a pretty good year but 2005 was horrible(the only good thing that happened was I got out of high school ;)) and since 2005 sucked so much 2006 has sucked so far as well.

I liked early '05, since it was essentially an extension of 2004, but late '05 and early '06 have been incredibly regressive and awful.  It's like 1999 is just screaming to come back, with the return of Family Guy, renewal of King of the Hill and Simpsons, Backstreet Boys comeback, and glam rap shiznit.

You know, now that you mention it alot of "1999ish" stuff did make a comeback in 2005(prime example being the Backstreet Boys comeback).

I really liked 2004 and 2005, so I'll have to go with mid 00's. I also liked 2000. 2001 was pretty much a washed out version of 2000. The first half of 2002 sucked with music and my personal life, but got better in the second half. 2003 started off ok, but the later half became sheeshty. 2004 was a great year in pop-culture and my personal life. I consider 2004 to be the new and improved version of '02 and '03. 2005 was a very exciting year with Star Wars III, Batman Begins, good music, cool new video games, etc. The first half of '05 was really good, but things seemed to go downhill after the summer. 2006 sucks so far, and I feel like the downward trend will continue until late 2007 when it turns around for better.

Yeah, a lot of the trends of the first half of 2005 started in late 2004, like the premier of Lost and even Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. album was actually released in Nov. of '04. I also notice the regression that started in the fall of '05, although I don't have any complaints about Family Guy coming back, lol.

I'd have to say the mid 00's.  Then again, I have a lot of bad memories of the early 00's, particularly in the 2001-2003 time period.  There's some stuff I like from the early 00's, but my life is much better today than it was in the early 00's.  Although 2000 (and some of 2001) were some pretty good times for me.  Too bad it went downhill right around the time 9/11 occurred.  Strange coincidence, but 9/11 symbolized my passage from my fun elementary school days into the nightmare that was seventh and eighth grade.

I have to say that both the early years and this year sucks. Hopefully into 2007 until the end of the decade will be better.

I think it's a misconception, though, that everything at a given point is completely of that decade. There are always TV shows and groups that continue popularly for a few decades, it's the more faddish stuff that disappears. An example is somebody like the Rolling Stones.
