The '70s are the decade of streaking, pet rocks, singer-songwriters, prog rock, Charlie's Angels, blaxploitation movies, disco, marijuana and cocaine use, bellbottom jeans, serious political movies, conspicuous consumption, chest hair, platform shoes, bad hair, polyester, Watergate, David Bowie,"serious" porn, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Norman Lear TV, SNL, stagflation, and punk rock.
The '80s are the decade of Donald Trump, yuppies, conspicuous consumption, cocaine, synth pop, Miami Vice, Duran Duran, ex-movie stars in the whitheouse, Madonna, big hair, convertibles, video arcades, Arnold Schwarzenegger, preppies, hoop earrings, Lionel Richie, Prince, supermodels, Valley Girls, corporate domination, shopping malls, Dynasty, hair metal, convertibles, music videos, and bangles.
The '90s are the decade of grunge, Seinfeld, The Simpsons, Quentin Tarantino, Nickelodeon, dot-com booms, Starbucks, nutty piercings, gangsta rap, teen pop, goths, flannel, teen homelessness, school shootings, moral panics, raves, "losers and slackers", Alanis Morisette, Tamagochis, Julia Roberts, Mariah Carey, baggy pants, and Whole Foods Market.
The '00s are the decade of bling, grillz, terrorism, The Black Eyed Peas, emo, Desperate Housewives, Orange County (like everything takes place there nowadays), buttjobs, Paris Hilton, McMansions, the Atkins Diet, hybrid cars, green tea, cell phones, Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff, obsessive security paranoia, knitting, hipsters, Urban Outfitters, an ex-movie star California governor, iPods, TiVo, real estate mania, jingoism, vulgar dressing, and trucker hats.
Makes the similarities between the '80s and the '00s more obvious.
