Subject: Peak of Zeroes culture?

Written By: Donnie Darko on 03/08/06 at 1:29 am

I would say 2004.  That year just summed up the '00s.

To me questions like that are pointless. What is most, '00slike?' Perhaps this decade cos it was smack right in the middle, but I dunno what I'm even doing answering this thread. Oh, right getting my post count up.

2004, easily. Everything has been a redux since spring-summer 2005 when '05 pop culture started really taking off. 2004 had everything '00s: glam rap, weird yuppieish mega-materialism, terrorism, reality TV, primetime soaps, indie rock, the iPod, TiVo, etc. We're sort of in a redux of 2005 right now, which is really a watered down 2004.

I say 2004 as well even though I believe were still kinda in the peak now but it's steadily declining.

I think '05 and '06 are equally '00s, but 2004 was more immersed in the culture.

Yeah 2004 was the peak of the 00's for sure. It had the Bush/Kerry election after all and it dosent get any more 00's than that.

I have never seen such appalling abuse of Wikipedia as this. Those articles are the absolute epitome of useless fluff.

Donnie, you even got a plug in there for Posse of Two. Talk about shameless self promotion!  ;D

Those pieces should be deleted immediately!

Many Wikipedia articles are useless fluff. I use Wikipedia sometimes, but I have a hard time taking most of the stuff on there seriously. I've tried editing things, but some idiot always changes it right back with no explanation so I just gave up.

I like Wikipedia but yeah sometimes some idoit goes on there and edit's an article when he has no idea what he's talking about. Some people even go on there and just type a bunch of jibberish on an article just to screw it up.

I've considered writing something that's total bullsh*t on there and seeing how long it takes to get removed. Like, in the transsexuals article, "63.2% of the U.S steel industry is currently controlled and operated by transsexuals."

Bumper stickers are hard to get off, apparently.

I don't think we've seen our peak yet.. but if I had to say SO FAR, 2004.

I'm getting a sh*tload of bumper stickers when I get a car...the rainbow flag, the Jewish star and Israeli flag, a chai, the American flag, and tons of Jersey stuff.

I don't think '06 is quite the nadir of '00s culture yet...it's just a holdover from the 2004 peak of it, really, a watered-down version of 2005, which was a watered down version of '04 and even '03 (when all this stuff was still pretty new and exciting.) '07 and '08 will probably have a more "changeful" feeling in the air, and '09 will be the year where change really starts (it won't be the full '00s anymore, but it won't be the '10s), and the change to '10s culture will probably be around 2011 or so.

This isn't the downfall... honestly, it's not THAT bad.. 2005 was annoying as a year.. I consider that worse then 2006 has been so far.. I think we'll just have to see about 2006. when it's over.

I would say 2000 and 2004 were both peaks, and I have a feeling 2008 will be another one. 2000 was the peak of the late 90's/early 00's culture, while 2001 was like a washed-out version of 2000.

2004 had crunk music, reggaetons, reality shows, Dave Chappelle's Lil' Jon impersonations, and 00's fads such as the iPod, bobble-heads, retro 80's fashion, etc. as well as Napoleon Dynamite and the premier of Lost.

2005 was like a new kind of 00's, with the PSP, XBox 360, and music that's a hybrid of rap and r&b as well as music that's a hybrid of rap and alternative. Also in '05 reality shows were starting to die out and we started seeing more sitcoms like Stacked, Everybody Hates Chris, My Name is Earl, the War at Home, etc. 2006 is pretty much a continuation of the styles of 2005, only not as good. I think 2008 will be the peak of the current styles and trends, before 2009 begins the styles of the early 10's.

I agree that there was sort of a change going into 2005 from 2004, but it more began in late 2004, with the premiere of Desperate Housewives, and 2004 was when reality TV started to decline. I see 2004 as THE peak of zeroes culture, and the nadir will probably be 2008.

There was definitely a change between 2004 and 2005 that started in the later half of 2004. The premier and huge success of Desperate Housewives and Lost. Slow decline of reality TV. The re-emergence of Green Day. There were a number of alternative rock songs that charted very high in 2005. Emo also grew drastically in popularity.

Yeah 00's culture has still got a few more years left on it. I think 2007/'08 will probably be alot like 2006 but with that feeling of change in the air you mentioned. I think 2009 will be a very different year than 2006 and will start to tilt toward 10's culture. Mostly because by then people will start to get tired of the same old thing and alot of late 90's born kids will start to get grow up and becomes teens themselves in the late 2000's/early 2010's.

Yeah...2012 will be the beginning of the '10s, probably, with Generation Z starting to really come into its own as a market force.
